Extremely durable. It doesn't muffle out the higher or lower ranges like most field mic's do, and it can take a serious ass kicking.
Most mic's have to be screamed into to get what this thing picks up at a comfortable singing level. I have even put a spit screen in front of it and used it in recording.
My complaint would be that it doesn't have a switch, but there is another model - SM -58S, that has a switch.
I have kicked, dropped, spilled shit into, stepped on, and left this microphone outside, and it still works better than any AKG or Nady I've ever used. Dented screen's don't affect it's performance, and neither does leaving it out in the rain.
This mic rocks. Recommend it, and wouldn't get any other mic after working with this one so long. Except maybe the one with the switch.
Compared to AKG's and Nady's of similar price, this thing is like a Cadillac for the price of a Hyundai.
I wouldn't spend money on any other microphone.
