« Ampeg Dan Armstrong AMB1 »
Published on 11/30/03 at 15:00I bought my Ampeg from a local guitar dealer for around $600 (half the usual price) because some nasty weather damaged the dealer's store. He had to move alot of his items because of the damage to his store so that's why I got my Ampeg at half price. I wanted something that would be funky and this thing is great for that.
I love the Seymour Duncan Humbucking Basslines pickup. That's what is on the Modulus Flea4 and Flea5 and on Ernie Ball's basses, I believe. It has a really sweet tone (not to mention the fact that I can get a good variety of tones on it) and it is really easy to play. Nice low action. My fingers just fly across the neck. Also, I love the dark, clear purple finish over the quilted maple. It's absolutely bueatiful.
I can't say--this bass is awesome. I think though that it would be great if there were more colors to choose from (other than the burst vs. the purple), but I am perfectly content with the purple.
This thing seems really sturdy. The hardware is nickel and the fretboard is rosewood. The neck is bolted on. If this bass were dropped multiple times, then I would expect it to survive (and still be good), but I wouldn't try that because I love this thing too much---don't want to mess up the paint job.
I give this bass a 10 for sound, appearance, and construction. Whether you want to play softly like Darrel Evans, or funky like Flea, this bass is great!
