« Squier Standard Precision Bass Special »

I played it for about half an hour at Sam Ash on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles. Didn't buy it, but it was selling for $219.99.

It sounds more like a P-bass than a Jazz, with the heavy bottom associated with the Precision model.

Not inviting to the hand. My stolen ESP B-104 bass, and the OLP MM-2 I played subsequently, both have a nicer feel. And all the pots, volume and tone, crackle. This was not a singular incidence -- I played two Squier P-bass Specials in the store with different finishes, and all the pots have this crackle. And it wasn't the cable or amp, since the OLP bass was fine. Squier has never given me a good impression on the electronics front, and these two P-basses and my old Squier Strat are living proof. For my purposes, having both Jazz and Precision pickups wasn't particularly useful.

Mediocre. The finishes and woods are okay as far as I could tell, but the controls and hardware feel iffy.

Pay a little more money and just get the OLP MM-2, or a Fender Precision Deluxe.
