« Ugly, sorry »
Published on 08/19/10 at 04:13A good old multi-effects floorboard format with an expression pedal. On paper it has functions is still not all together in competition: 8-track recording directly into the bike, jamman, audio interface to the PC via USB connectivity is impressive, and so on.
The pedal is metal as Russian tanks and endless knobs are notched an excellent idea. The expression pedal is well made, wide with a good race. The display is small but I am using that much of a AdrenaLinn, it does not bother me.
The effects are standard type modulation, reverb, delay, distos, etc.. and includes amp simulations + HP can theoretically very interesting to mix the sound of two amps through the "warp". The chain of effects is not changed and makes them delay and reverb at the end of the chain. Damage.
There is a PC editor very complete, very stable and very well done.
It's pure digital, there is a connection MIDI in / out but beware, the machine does not send any MIDI message and can only receive it!
UTILIZATION
The general configuration is as simple as on any multiple of the same type, rather more intuitive than a Boss GT and very obviously helped by the PC editor. Editing sounds is easy and you can download thousands (literally) of presets on the net. There is a particular sets of amplifiers called MFX supermodels supposed to emulate "real" all types of tube amps current, I tested it, and sets made by pros and distributed by Guitar World.
The manual is very well done, very clear, very complete.
SOUND QUALITY
Ben is the problem. The amp simulations are blowing like cattle, especially on the entry line. Digital sound effects / Mid whatever the position on which to put the speaker button off (in fact with a position it blows like crazy, on the other is suppressed and not dynamic).
Overall, the sound seems hollow, unconvincing especially in overdrive which is a major goal of the craft. That said I play mostly live to sound card for home recording and a Fender Champion 600, maybe on a big amp that sounds.
The effect settings are minimal and in my case perfectly inadequate: no reverse delay, no dosage dry / wet but only on the level of effect. Cons ago by an emulation of IPS and whammy that will please you if you like that sort here ... Why did not they put all the effects of the space station in place is a mystery ...
The direct recording on the bike is in bits 44khz/16 which is sufficient for use as a looper but very very light when used as a computer audio interface (the first is 96kHz/24bits Zoom G2). I read below that it is better than guitar rig, but it must relate to a version before 3.0, because now any serious computer simulation is clearly better in all areas.
OVERALL OPINION
I bought it used and sold 15 days later. I have long multis of all genres and amp simulation question the desktop Tonelab seems to me far ahead, question or zoom effects multis bosses are also far ahead, I do not even speak of separate pedals that are at light years, including those from digitech. What a bunch of chitterlings, why not have made a multi which incorporates the most excellent pedal instead of the brand to include only those who fashion ... I wanted to use it as multi jamman + + audio interface to replace my ToneLab, morality seen the size of the beast and quality rather than low sounds I'll buy a JamMan stereo and separate effects to complete my ToneLab.
Altogether a great idea that ended with a resounding flop.
