« Zoom 606 Multi-Effects with Expression Pedal »
Published on 12/07/01 at 15:00Purchased from Music123 for $99 USD. I was looking for a multi-effects unit that wouldn't break the bank and the 606 was just what the doctor ordered. Music123's service was great. I live in the Washington D.C. area and the unit was at my house in 3 or 4 days from the time I ordered it.
I like just about everything the unit has to offer. For a hundred bucks, Zoom really throws a lot of features and functionality at you. I had the old 505 and was pretty pleased with it until I heard my buddies POD. The effects weren't very impressive on the older units, but the sound quality is much more improved in the 606. Also, the inclusion of direct to recording ability is great and the amp models are pretty cool. This makes it easy to record on my PC with Cakewalk.
I don't like that the unit is so small and tends to move around on you when using the built in expression pedal. The unit doesn't feel incredibly sturdy either, but then again, I don't gig with this unit so it's never going to see anything but my basement carpet under it and my socked feet on top of it.
Construction is part plastic, part metal. Not too shabby, but again I would never gig with this unit unless I had 10 spares in the van.
Overall it's a great unit at a great price. I mentioned the strengths and weaknesses above, but here's a shpeal from the Music123 site where I bought it regarding the feature set:
The 606 Pedal Is The Newest Entry of ZOOM Guitar Multi Effects Pedal Processors. Features a Built in Expression Pedal, 35 Versatile Effects, 3 Amp-Cabinet Simulators, Built-In Auto-Chromatic Tuner, ZOOM (ZNR) Noise Reduction System, Drive Selector & Gain + Or - Key. 4 AA (Alkaline Type) Batterys Provides More Than 24 Hours of Continuos Operation. The 606 Is Designed for Simple Use and Ease of Operation. Optional RPS 27 AC Adapter Avaiable. "Surpasses All Previous Standards"
