PreSonus has released version 3.3.1 drivers for Windows XP/Vista and Mac OS X for FireStudio Tube and FireStudio Project FireWire recording systems.
The new driver provides multi-unit support, enabling you to daisy-chain multiple FireStudio Projects and FireStudio Tubes in any combination, creating systems with extensive I/O that fits in just a few rack spaces. Two and three units daisy-chained in any combination has been tested at PreSonus, however, the number of units that can be daisy-chained depends on your computer’s processor speed, amount of RAM and computer configuration.
For example, say you have a FireStudio Project and a FireStudio Tube. With driver version 3.3.1, you can daisy-chain the two units to create a 26 input system. Add another FireStudio Tube and get another sixteen analog inputs with ten microphone preamps! That’s a 42-input recording system with 28 microphone preamplifiers all in three rack spaces!
Note that the inputs and outputs on each unit in the chain remain independent from one another, so you cannot monitor the inputs of any unit in the chain through the outputs of any other units in the chain, but you can easily create a mix within your DAW.
