«  An excellent compromise! »

Published on 02/23/11 at 02:19
installed on a PC in a home studio. I used to record instruments and voices.
properly patched on a small analog console, I had to add a mic preamp voice a little warmer, and some compressor and equalizer .. configuration Low cost but very interesting as long as you install some VST effects in the PC.

I have a pc not very powerful (dual-core 2ghz, Hard Drives: 160GB + 500GB dedicated to software for storage, 2GB DDRAM, win xp home) and the only problems I encountered latency problems are, due to my PC and an inability to read more than 15 channels at once without lag (also in my pc)

only drawback: to my knowledge there is no driver for Linux workstation ... (I read that a driver had been designated to support this type of sound cards, but I have not managed to get my presonus ...)

UTILIZATION

side drivers ... slight problem on windows: from time to time (in continuous use) the driver is lost and it is necessary to restart the card and software that played at the "crash" That said, it happened to me 3 times in 4 years ...
on the other hand, I "ve noticed that the card is very uncomfortable with the" hot plug "(read: when it is inadvertently unplugged while the PC is running, sometimes the pc no longer able to recognize and that the one is forced to reboot the whole system ...

I also had a small hardware problem ... the motherboard of my FIREPOD me let go and did not want redémmarrer ... I contacted the dealer (Thomann) who has returned from PreSonus. waiting time a little long ... but in return, a sound card refurbishment with a brand new motherboard in the house (under warranty)

So anyway happy with my card!

GETTING STARTED

Apart from these small flaws, this is a very intuitive card. Used on Cubase LE (came with the card) and Adobe audition, she gave me a real pleasure for registration! superb quality and latency of about 8 to 12 ms max almost entirely due to my PC (my boy has negligible level ...) recording 24bit / 96KHz of 5 simultaneous tracks ...

I particularly like the volume buttons for each vote, and the input connector that allows the use of jacks or XLR, with or without phantom power.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 4 years. it is almost always on and apart from some problems mentioned above, it is really a sound card that I love!

value for money very good for use amateur or professional confirmed!

I do not sell it so soon!
