    - Installation is it without problem?
Yes, I installed two days ago on XP SP2. Double click on setup.exe of only a 3MB (zon how to do?) is simplicity itself. Tonight I tested briefly on ... ubuntustudio linux (+ winetricks and wine on my old laptop teckneo 2G5 512) ... and I read the file directly on the audio demo Intgr the laptop! uncredible.

    - Have you experienced any incompatibility?
    hardware, no.
    software, not really test.

    - The configuration gnrale is easy?

I would say yes too, when adj used this software and we are well aware of the signal routing in the machine (specially mention a connection between the matrix of outputs: one can " everything "done!) ... a walk in the leaflet is still necessary even if Reaper is close to all our trs RFLEX standard computer (copy and paste drag and drop etc.)

    - The manual is clear and sufficient? ...
365 pages, concise, to the few I read. is good in English, can arrter some, that's true, but there are also images ;-)

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

I do run on a desktop cm ASUS P5LD2 Pentium 3.2 GHz 2GB ram, with a MAUDIO ProFire Lightbridge (firewire) and four adda8000 (re-read in optics and the receiving clock slave) not test at noon, but the Audio nickel: asio recording 32 tracks with 24-bit 48khz 4 dparts I, for one with the reverb (Sir), and a mix for a face (screenshot). not a single plant for the time-no, no hidden advertising, I do not work in Cockos;) - I'm going to focus even history to confirm the trend.

    OVERALL OPINION

    - How long have you use it?
good two days of tests is a bit short (should plutt two years), but I had to share my enthusiasm.

    - What is the particular feature you like best and least?
the flexibility of full routing (pre to post plugs) for the plusplus for the "least" not much else for now may be the lack of translation

    - How do you report qualitprix?
    standard, no competitor.

    - With the exprience, you do again this choice? ...
I cracked it clear on Reaper, but I lack of experience, we'll see in a year?

P IV 2.6GHz, 1.5 GB RAM, 160 +500 gb SD card in the X24 phase terractec producer
    - The software works he correctly on this configuration?
No particular problem. This software is lightweight (under 12 mb SD), no intensive ram (40 mb on an empty project, then the number of dpend track, virtual instruments and plug-ins utiliss ) and can run multiple instances!
    - What performance? (If quantifiable)
Use with low latency (5-7 ms), I have little problem. Sometimes a small time limit between the click on the button "save" and The beginning of the recording but I think it comes from the large number of effects on the tracks south of Kontakt ... has nevertheless pnible and Drout.
    - This software + hardware configuration is stable?
In fact, the only crash I had came from a plug-in rcalcitrant (on other squenceurs for that matter).

    OVERALL OPINION

    - How long have you use it?
Two weeks of intensive Manir. The trial version is complte, free and limit one month of use.
    - What is the particular feature you like best and least?
+ In Manir gnrale trs intuitive and ergonomic pretty good
    Simplicity + basic functions
    + Number of Features
    + Mtronome customizable
    + Customizable Interface
+ Inline Lditeur twelve o'clock is a little Cubase plutt well.
    + No Menu / submenu / sub-menu Soussou
    + A true matrix routing!
+ The mix is not bad at all
    + Automation implement simple
+ Compatibility with lots of surface CONTRL
+ Auto Looping very practical for MIDI tracks
    + Etc

    - Many context menus con moderately comprhensibles
    - The dlais that appear are blowing some boot denregistrement
    - No French version of

    - Have you tried many other models before acqurir?
Acid Pro 5 and 6 (DIFFERENT but a little-even when such!)
Energy XT 2 (freeware trs good but limited)
    Cubase Studio 4 and VST32
TrakAx (freeware not bad but not quite complete)
Live tests 5 and 6, Logic
    - How do you report qualitprix?
For a non-commercial use, the license is $ 50 ($ 225 retail) !!!!!! Cest almost given when compared to other squenceurs the march. Level of functionality is amazing considering the price. The report is qualitprix I havent afraid to say, the best of squenceurs gnralistes.
    - With the exprience, you do again this choice? ...
Jai put a lot of time designing my hardware-software configuration with constraints financires and know-how. Everything you invest in what sense is our answer to the needs, and should allow concrtiser the ides that a lon as musicians. Instruments (such as virtual ral) are one thing, and all the software is another. Culturally, jai hard rock 350 in a program that only serves matrialiser lon plays what and who is phmre. The few freeware available are not all the height, Reaper is a good compromise, the price is democratic and allows dACHETER for real, not on emule or other PtoP of Systm. So yes, Reaper is the software that most closely matches my needs. It shall not be perfect, as any such software dailleurs but REPRESENTATIVES lquilibre between functionality, usability and price.

Installation is very simple, the updates are numerous, but there is also no problem, everything is done almost automatically. No dongle to bite me-knot, but a simple license number that shows we are trusted.
It should be noted some inconsistencies with certain VSTi, it is better to test your configuration with the trial version before buying.
Like any software, the manual is in English. If like me you are angry with the language of Shakespeare, it can be annoying.

If you have a control surface is a bit annoying to set up. I have a xboard and I still can not use the knobs, but the process exists and is found on AF in excellent tutorials.

    OVERALL OPINION

I use Reaper for two months in a serious manner. It takes a little time to get started when we went through the clutches of Steinberg, but once the keyboard shortcuts reparameterized, quickly found his bearings.
So after the period of trial and error, we realize slowly that it is largely among the best. It is intuitive, simple, fully skinable, the audio engine is nickel, the potential enormous. In other words, value for money is simply amazing (non-commercial license around 50 euros).
    Small flats?
    - No French version, and the lack of resources in our language (no community of French-speaking users either, but I used the forums to AF and it helped me overcome many difficulties initially).
    - The lack of audio editing, but I Reaper coupled with audacity (I just double click on the audio file in reaper audacity to start and do the job of cleaning my catch of his).
    So nothing too serious.
Otherwise, this software is a nugget.
When I think that some of my friends are still using versions cubase Aquatic ...
It's also really important to support the creators of software such as Cockos, people who do their utmost to get us out of the software sensational by remaining at reasonable rates.

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

    Mac Pro 4x2.66 (it's been that power is not really a problem ;-) / 4GB RAM / Interfaces MOTU HD192 x2.

Reaper 2.53 (current version at the time of writing this opinion) is stable at 95% on my bike. Crash from time to time (every 20 hours of use maybe) when I ask him too much at once.

    OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 3-4 months after intensive research and testing on other platforms: Samplitude, Cubase SX, ProTools HD, Pro Tools LE, Digital Performer, Ableton Live, Pyramix, etc..

I produce, record and mix albums distributed in the market for music and I tried the software tool that sounds best while refusing to sell my soul to Digidesign.

In Digital Performer (the enemy of ProTools cousin), I seem to have enough space when I mix, it's as if I had to cram a big band on stage in club ... I have more tracks, more shrivels my sound is like DP could not handle 60 tracks of audio simultaneously.
In ProTools, the sound is more punchy and defined as DP but I quickly feel mixer "head on the ceiling", that is to say, feeling a limit in the headroom (headroom). Besides I systems with outdated maps or close to being (excluding investment).
I tried Pyramix, known for its transparent sound, and that its user interface and features that I find ill-suited to the needs of the production of contemporary music.
I also tested Samplitude, which I really liked the sound. Reaper sounds in any case as well ...
With Reaper, my sound is smooth, precise, punchy, clear ... even my clients I have noted that "refers to all the details" and so on.
I did not believe at first, but I hooked very quickly and I did let go since. My DP snoozing and I still can not ...

    What I like:

    - That guy in San Francisco will be coupled to such a task with passion and are poised to destabilize the giant presence in the market of digital audio (my soul incorrigible independent speaker ;-)

    - Resolution 64-bit end to end with a collection of plug-ins staggering (over 100)!
You will find very useful stuff and exclusive Reaper. Do not expect the pseudo-vintage look and so on. big button is pure basic but it sounds! In addition, you can organize your bookmarks into folders plugs, no more endless menus! Save your chains as plugs and remember them when you want. VST, VSTi, AU, etc..
Number of tracks limited by the power of your bike, resolution recording and playback customizable.

    - Overall very configurable.
Skins and their components can be downloaded from the site of Cockos, all colors are adjustable to your liking, etc.. I for one am done my interface via my favorite items to other users. Enjoyable when you know that most other apps require a graphic line sometimes questionable.
A simple feature that I like: the ability to resize its faders in the mix virtual table and define their range (from -60 db to 12 db, for example.) Handy for mixing purposes.

    - Philosophy Community incredibly productive and dynamic.
You've probably experienced the frustration of working on an app that you want to make a change or add a function. Reaper with the community, you will post your idea, users from around the world bring their lighting, their ideas further and Reaper team considers its implementation.
I myself have already submitted two ideas that have been implemented within one month of their submission to the forum! I could not believe it :-)
In addition, the Reaper community full of geniuses who think outside the box and push the soft land in unknown, very creative and forward-thinking.
The SDK is available, you will find on the site of add-ons Cockos programmed by users.
The updates come at a rate of about one per month ... Welcome to the 21st century!

    - Routing in all directions, side-chaining between tracks, a track type that does everything = link between midi and audio.
Management of multi-out for virtual instruments.

    - Physical inserts via plug-in ReaInsert provided with automatic compensation of time (yes, in ProTools).
Ability to program macros (series of actions) and assign them to keyboard key combinations (hotkeys) to save time.

    - MIDI basic but functional and developing countries.

    - 100% native, not of hardware imposed. Work on your laptop to the beach and in the studio on your main station ...

    - The demo is not constrained and can be used indefinitely.

    - Etc.

The key elements still to be implemented:

    1. Function show / hide tracks = ability to hide or show the selected tracks.
    2. The warp markers (for Live or ProTools)
    3. of VCAs (or better)
    4. ...

In short, Reaper is more than a soft, this is a pioneering project exciting.

    You understood, I'm a fan!

    OVERALL OPINION

Compared to that I use cubase sx for 5 years I find this program better in many ways:

    - Performance: CPU more headroom, more stable, no crashes with many VST, instantaneous opening of the program, no zoom like a tedious project overloaded on cubase, everything seems more responsive.
    - Modularity: smart routing audi / midi, adding effects and navigation very intuitive once forgotten the previous habits. Modularity of the interface as well, with many skins really nice.

In short I migrated. Counting a few hours to digest the specifics. Export / Import projects from my cubase is pretty tedious: export export midi + audio +? On all vst for each track (unless you have the presets). But it is a great way to take control of the software.

Obviously it is a gas plant, so it's difficult to take over, especially since all menus are not perfectly organized. But overall I find it more intuitive than Cubase.

Yet no French translation, but it suits me.

I have only used acid before, and I much prefer reaper.

It depends ... As such, it is not complex to jump start recording / playback. But the tool is very complete, everything is customizable, which may make it complicated if you want to leave the basic settings. No doubt the complexity also comes from a background of several years of Cubase, the parameters are more or less the same, but how to configure them is a little different. We must also recognize that, until now, all my questions were answered in the manual.
    - The manual is clear and sufficient? ...
    Yes, great.

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

    - What is the configuration of your computer? (Motherboard / CPU / Ram / Disk / sound card ..)
    see my profile
    - The software works he correctly on this configuration?
Yes, it runs without worry, and it seems that the use of CPU resources is more efficient than Cubase. Cubase, my PC was struggling to run a Pianoteq BFD2 + + + Yellow Tools Majestic else in audio (from 1 to 4 tracks guitars, or vocals, effects). The same pieces in Reaper, I take a look at the performance, and he still room (a lot of room, even).
    - What performance? (If quantifiable)
Quite good, even excellent. My experience was limited to Cubase, so I can not speak over other software. Reaper meets my expectations, and returns the Steinberg developers to their current programming.
    - This software + hardware is stable?
Generally, yes. However, I have a crash from time to time, especially when I want to move from a project "Heavy" (with VST instruments on several tracks) to another. Maybe it's me, but I can not find the proper way to close a project, keeping Reaper open, to open another window in a vacuum.

    OVERALL OPINION

    - How long have you use it?
It'll be a few months. I was convinced by the demo, I tried a little over a month without any loss of functionality (kudos to Cockos for this approach).
    - What is so special that you like most and least?
    + Everything is configurable
    + Class performances
+ Quick start (a few seconds to be operational)
    + Quality effects
    + Routing
    - The look of the basic version (the tastes and colors), but you can change everything
    - Having to relearn a new software, and get rid of habits Cubase ...
    - Have you tried many other models before buying it?
    All Steinberg
    - How would you rate the quality / price?
Although the demo version is usable with no time limit, I thought that such a development should be rewarded. 50USD for a noncommercial license, and for such a product, I have not met anyone to complain about trade policy Cockos ... value / price ratio.
    - With experience, you do again this choice? ...
Yes. I particularly regret not having tried it before.

The general configuration does not seem very difficult but it is true that I am beginning to know by heart. We must above all learn and know the principles of ASIO for recording in real time and without latency multitrack, and effects plugins (VST, including but not only), instruments (VSTi) and you begin to s and to acknowledge.

The interface is intuitive as for multitrack magneto I've ever had: there are tracks, must be cocked, determine where it makes the sound that you hear the track etc..

Very simple with few tracks, and very very powerful.

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

VAIO Athlon 2X II 340, 4 GB RAM, Toneport UX1, UX2 sometimes (but it has blown somewhere and not work well), and 4 USB Multimix.

In Win 7, UbuntuStudio 8.04, Fedora CCRMA XII, TANGOSTUDIO, KX STUDIO ... I put everything in the multiboot, while running with the Multimix (no usable driver for Linux Toneport, yuck)

Correct performance without more, I think 3.4, but I do not know the scale.

Works flawlessly, very few bugs, except when I forget to start first and run Qjackctrl Wineasio. Once started, impeccable, whatever my track count and VST more or less heavy.

Stable configuration, never freezes or crashes in these conditions.

    OVERALL OPINION

I REAPER for at least three years after finding that Audacity was not really a multitrack recording software.

I tested various other, sometimes as simple as a demo version but never paying expensive software. Linux, for free there are things like, "almost" as well (Ardour + Rosegarden + Jack ... etc.)

I like everything: cheap, powerful, intuitive, multi-platform and OS, but receives many VST is already equipped with the essentials to turn. And install on an external drive or a USB key, as very lightweight and well written.

Like less withdrawals versions all the time because I have to upgrade my OS and all configurations can be different if I do not take care.

The trial version not restrained, with 5 seconds delay at startup to remind that this is a demo is free! ! We do not share the best free software. The paid version is less personal than a game console: unbeatable value for money in my opinion.

With experience, I would first hand over Ardour free, or I would start testing REAPER free to give me a hand, and I would resume a license because I have not found anything better yet.
