older midi keyboard--what do I do with this beast?

Just inherited an older midi keyboard, a Roland E20. I have a midi-to-usb adapter, but I have no idea how to make my Mac recognize the keyboard or get it to work with Garage Band 3. Any tips, pointers to general info, or other links would be appreciated!
