I've read a lot of reviews that very from one extreme to the other, but I have to say that it's definitely one of the better solid state distortion pedals out there. I think most of the people who complain about this pedal haven't heard the rest of the offerings out there.
Very unusable in recording situations. The hiss this pedal generates makes it pretty much a live-only pedal. Too easy to dial in that horrible all high-end distortion and speaker woofing bass sound.
Like every Boss pedal, the construction is top notch. I've still got Boss pedals that are 20 years old and they are still working perfectly.
I'm a recording engineer so I get to experience the horrors of beginner guitar sounds all the time and this pedal is heroin to the newbie guitarist. Have you ever heard a guitar part that is so distorted you can't even make out the notes that are being played? It was probably recorded with a MT-2. It's a versitile pedal when used responsibly, but it's still just a solid stated distortion unit. Let's face it folks, this pedal was designed for the beginner guitarists to sound like they're playing through 100 Crate stacks at once. Once they try it, they're hooked and it's hard to get them to come back.
