I bought this pedal brand new on ebay for $35. I had a DOD Grunge and was looking for a wider range of distortion.

The DS7 is part of the Tone-Lok series, which allows you to find a good sound and "lock" the knobs so you won't lose your tone. The controls are Drive, Tone, and Level. This pedal gives a great range of distortion sounds. I think this pedal makes the best sounds when the Drive is set between 3 and 8. In that range, you can go from a classic crunch all the way to a modern heavy sound. I would say that this pedal stops just short of a metal sound. You could push it, but it would be better to get something heavier for metal. It gets a little fuzzy above 8. If you play any kind of rock, chances are you can find your sound in this pedal. I like to use a Danelectro Pastrami Overdrive for a slight overdriven sound, then add the DS7 for my full distortion sound (Drive: 4, Tone: 4). Even with the Drive only at 4 (with the slight overdrive in front of it), I get a solid distortion, heavy palm muting, with shiny harmonics and great sustain through my Epiphone Les Paul and Fender Princeton 65 amp.

The only improvement could be Bass and Treble controls instead of just a Tone control. This isn't that much of a problem. I get a good tone on my amp, and if you really want to fine tune your sound, you could get an EQ pedal.

This pedal is very sturdy. It is heavy and can take a beating. It has a metal casing and will not break if you have a heavy stomp. I expect to be using this pedal for a long time. I also like the look of the pedal. It looks like the quality product that it is.

I am very pleased with this pedal. The Tone-Lok series is a great innovation. I never have to worry about resetting the knobs. The DS7 is very reliable and is quite versatile. If you play rock, try this pedal. I would rate this pedal 4.7, but I'll round up for their rating system. Great distortion!
