on the other hand should be open to study the electronic diagram and how the distortion is generated: does the pretty 12AX7 tube preamp serves only as a distortion diodes and transistors, or is it part and parcel of 'distort?
UTILIZATION
Simple and minimalist manual.
The TK999HT has a noise gate built that reacts when the palm of the hand block chords: use sparingly in my opinion, but it is useful when many effects pedals are the chain and generate a lot of parasites.
SOUND QUALITY
The TK999HT is scheduled to give a dimension "tube amp" to a transistor amp. I guess we can also be used, via a direct box, in a mixer.
Personally I use an amp on "all tubes", which has no saturation (or very little), a Hiwatt Custom 100. And then it becomes grandiose.
Settings "70" overdrive "or" 80 "metal" give me the impression of pushing a Marshall JCM thoroughly, and more ... Other proposed adjustments, the more metal-oriented contemporary, less to my taste, but provide great sound, both very warm and distorted, that is rich in harmonics and with a good performance at low frequencies.
In a little fiddling I found punk-rock oriented sound or HxC, very dynamic. Certainly a Hiwatt custom is a great amp, but with the TK999HT, I feel like a wall of amps at home.
OVERALL OPINION
Compare the animals to other pedals I know:
. Ibanez TS: nothing in the TS is an overdrive (with excellent tube saturation emulation). The TK999HT is a distortion with a very pronounced grain (the "clip"). The two effects are complementary.
. Boss Metal Zone: I regarded as my reference distortion. It's over. I still consider a good pedal, but it sounds "cold" compared to the TK999HT.
. EH Big Muff: nothing to see. The fuzz does not TK999HT little or pushing the gain up. The two effects are complementary.
. Black Star HT Dist X: effect very similar in design to the TK99HT. Very good pedal also more expensive. This gives sounds very similar on both. The Black Star seems to generate more noise and noise.
In my opinion, the Tube King pedal is an essential for anyone wishing to have a big sound, heavy rock to metal through punk, HxC. When one has tasted the distortion tube, transistor pedals sound good fade.
Excellent quality / price ratio in my opinion.
