« Very good microphones, vintage and RnR. »
Published on 06/09/14 at 01:39Well, in the preamble, and have tried many mics on many guitars, I went through several phases. Routine testing of changes microphones, electronic etc ... I had over the years, try 90% of Duncan HB (bought and sold secondhand), and full of Dimarzio, Bare Knuckle, EMG , Rio Grande, Carvin, Gibson etc ... I had my shop phase, I returned from elsewhere. My conclusions: just find the right microphone that goes with good guitar. If the violin is good, when his slap high volume (nothing to do with the output level of the microphone), it's full spectrum, you must not touch anything. Sometimes it is with a shop, sometimes with no name ... There are no rules. Clean Electronics, although cable, good cables (for me DYI with Mogami + Neutrik budget € 10 for a 3m to break everything), a good amp ... and know how to play.
That said, I installed these on a Duncan LP Classic PP 92 with 496R and 500t of origin were super good for the EVH very rocks or metal (????), But still lacked flexibility and softness. All pickups this guitar was confused treble a bit hard. Tests full of microphones on the shovel without convincing results. I found a APH1-n secondhand recently. I already know these mics to have owned a pair (as Papa) N + B for years before selling.
In the neck, this microphone turns out to be really good, very soft, very clean (the side-crados I adore Gibson pickups in favor of a kind of velvety, very round, very Slash also is lost. The APH1 is flattering because dug in the mids, treble sweet, low round, output level low enough momentum. At home I always found good in repeated lack of mids (my game and my gear) me was still up the volume to hear me ..
The APH2 is the same (N and B) that the one with more solid mids. It is for me it lacked one.
A medium neck pickup very thick but acute roundabouts more acute than elsewhere in BKP Mule by former, present beautiful bass, sharper than the same Mule as (I said: comparison made on the same guitar); Tone 0 is almost too much at once (but can do more can do less). It is ultra dynamic, low level output allows push very hard and in this case, as the bridge, its twists and becomes really bad, although rock, but always clean and precise.
Acute has less bass but not lacking, but its more acute reinforced mids allow ratings solos to keep the presence and seat. Its output level is average, and its dynamics on the attack makes it very versatile. In him falling in, we make it bad. I appreciate the fact that it does not sound thin or skinny as some LP, micro acute lack of presence on the handle.
The bridge and the neck are very different from each other, in final highly complementary.
Clean and precise side is flattering clean.
The surplus of the mids sounded much stronger than APH1, it seems to have a bit increased the volume of the amp and turning the tone to 6-7 on the guitar, keeping acute and bass. I love it!
I am super happy. Very good microphones that go well with this guitar.
These microphones will agree, I think those who have a slightly tough game and attacking the strings as raw (this is my case). If you have a shy game, they can be a bit flat.
The only thing I do not like is the bridge with the handle reverse zebra zebra (or vice versa could know ...); I prefer any zebra or reverse zebra, or black (my rigid psycho probably next ..). If someone wants to exchange with black, why not, mp ...
