« Boss PW10 V-Wah »

After playing live with a GT-3 mutli-FX for a coupla years I was really fed up with having to compromise the natural sound of my Fender Blues Deville for the effect unit. So I started thinking about what single effects I needed instead and as I already own a Proco RAT the next one on the list was wah. Remarkably about that time the Roland newsletter dropped through the letter box and there it was. I called up a coupla local music stores and checked the price onthe net also. The one store locally that had just left would not deal on the price - the guy said this was THE best wah around, demand was higher than available units. I went to store, played the unit for 30 minutes and paid the £115 without flinching.

Basically I had a choice of Vox, Morley, Dunlop and Dane-electro units instead of the V-Wah. They all cost between £70-£95 each. With the V-wah, I get to use all these pedals for just £115! Plus I also get distortion options, 3 memory banks and a resonance synth type sound for my money. It cannot get better surely? Oh yes it does!!! There is no ugly noise from a pot as the tone variance is sourced via an infra-red sensor!!! Fantastic!!! Oh yeah, must mention that there is a bandwidth type knob that is really useful in setting the amount of effect you need.

Almost nothing - this is the very best wah unit that money can buy.

The setting of distortion type seems tricky but I have not played much with this yet.
It could be cheaper I guess, but hell, you are getting several effects in one box. For the price it would have been good to get a power adaptor with it, like you do with the other Boss multi-FX.

As above, it has a very sturdy and rugged contruction. The foot pedal is about the right size meaning it doesn't take up half the stage. Switching on the heel to change memories is not as easy as I would perhaps have liked, but then it needs to be robust also to ensure its not switched by accident. Manual is simple and functional, although instruction on selecting various distortion settings could have been clearer.

Think I have said it all already - if you in the market for wah pedal, go and try this one (if you can find a dealer with one in stock). It is superb sounding and good value for money despite being a bit more expensive than the 'originals'. It is noise-free and that really is a massive bonus. On stage I find the choice of tone qualities from the different simulations really useful. The extra effects are really useful too and with practice switching between memories is not too hard.

Another innovative market leading product from Boss.
