I've heard the guts (pickups, bridge, etc) are all essentially the same, and the only difference is cheaper equipment used for the non-electronic parts (ie the tremolo is worse and doesn't lock).

Can someone tell me if this is true? Otherwise, why the fuck would anyone spend 3 times more for an almost identical look and tone?
