«  Card supported by GNU / Linux »

Value For Money : Excellent
I wanted a quality card supported by GNU / Linux (Ubuntu), the simplest: two inputs 96 kHz 24-bit, two corresponding outputs, MIDI in and out, cheap.

The sound card was used on a motherboard MSI MS-7255 and P21-G31TM with a E6600 processor and 2 GiB of RAM and two 500 GB drive in software RAID 1 time when I was mixing on double-platinum NUMARK CDN95 with console 24-bit analog recorded just before being normalized and converted to 16 bits to be burned to CD.

I used sometimes in the MIDI card to control the composition of computer music free software for Ubuntu.

UTILIZATION

The driver works fine on Ubuntu, it was sometimes used to configure the card during installation, I made a tutorial for Ubuntu, which was taken over and transformed into literature, but now, the detection is normally automatic.

The driver is updated if necessary, I am never concerned me.

Audacity is the software that has been used the most with this card. Then the Gnome 2, and Firefox (youtube), VLC (play music and Icecast).

Registration is on two tracks. Reading depends on the software, are two audio tracks and MIDI tracks.

My recollection is that the latency is 64 ms (sorry, this card is in the now ghost).

GETTING STARTED

The installation is done it without problem?
Ubuntu accepts, refer to the documentation site for Ubuntu packages to install.

Have you encountered any incompatibilities?
No.

The general configuration is easy?
Should be fully operational on Ubuntu 4.11 without manipulation ...
This card is not fully operational in Lucid and Maverick, especially when retains the onboard sound card to the motherboard (in bios).

The manual is clear and sufficient? ...
Yes.

OVERALL OPINION

I had to use it for two years (2009-2011).

Before I tried a Phase 28 which has never worked properly on GNU / Linux, hence the purchase of M-Audio Audiophile 2496.

What I like enough: the best signal to noise performance with my mixer and this card with the Phase 28. The price. Compatibility with my operating system.

How would you rate the quality / price?
-> Very good.

With experience, you do again this choice?
-> Only if I did not have a sound card ECHO Audiofire 12 or I needed to scan the Mixer.
