Sujet de la discussion Pre-Amp and compressor setup question...
In my quest for a good home studio setup, I've learned a lot thanks to this board.

I'm looking at purchasing this preamp... https://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/SMPro-Audio-PR8-8Channel-Mic-Preamp?sku=480830

And this compressor... https://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/dbx-266XL-CompressorGate?sku=183515

Now, my question is about setup... Is this how it works?

1) Microphone out ------to------> preamp's "Input 1"

2) Preamp's "Output 1" ------to------> Compressor's "Input 1"

3) Compressor's "Output 1"-------to--------> Recording Device (PC)

What adjustments do I make in the preamp??

I kind of understand the compressor... I set the attack time and the level where it begins the compression, but the preamp I'm not sure about. All I know is that it's critical to the vocal recording process. Can someone help me understand this a little better? Some of the websites that explain this stuff are a little over my head.

the setup is correct.

generally, a preamp has just one thing to set: gain. all you have to do is set the gain of the preamp so that the signal peaks do not turn red.
