I've read a ton of reviews but I'd like to hear some current opinions.

What do U believe is the best microphone out there for recording electric guitar in all forms (distortion, clean, etc)

the SM57 is a regular favorite of studios all over.

i like the Sennheiser MD421, but i always keep a couple sm57's around.
there really isnt really a "best" mic.... it all depends on the amp, the player, and most importantly the room.

the Sm57 is great, but if you want a different more accurate sound try a KM184 nuemann

I've never had any luck with SDCs on electric guitar. Too much fizz and proximity effect.

I'm pretty much using my Royer R121 as my first choice just about every time these days, but I could get by with a 57 just fine. It just depends on what I'm going for. There is no best.

right now im useing a shure sm57 right up close and a audio technica 4040 about 3-4 feet away.
i always like the sm57 give a good rock an roll sound anyway

sm57 has a nice tone and good response. its good for rock. but you need a good room/amp too.

I purchased two MXL-604 microphones. They are good for instruments. The price is reasonable. All specifications look good.
