If you use a straight thru XLR to TRS phantom can be sent down the wire. But if you do XLR to TS oh boy watch out the phantom power will be shorted out. (Or possibly only one side of it will be and the tip will still have 48V)

I would recommend NEVER sending phantom power on 1/4" jacks.

A transformer type adapter will just dead-end the phantom power with no probs USUALLY.

I've accidentally sent phantom to a cassette deck and it did not like it. I was lucky as switching it off revealed no noticable damage.

If it has a transformer...NO. If it has no transformer and is truely XLR to TRS, YES
