multi amp models, effects. I love the Fender amp simulations, versatility of the unit. It sounds great at low volume, and does not get harsh when turned up. Plenty of power for small room clubs, great for recording.
I had been waiting for about a year to try this out. I wanted to hear the amp with my Tom Anderson Classic Strat, and also to compare it to the Fender Strats. I was getting fed up with the somewhat sterile, non-spongy sound of the Anderson plugged into my Roland Jazz Chorus 120, so I lugged my guitar over my shoulder in my gig bag and took the 1.5 hour walk to the music store. (3 month bus strike here in Paradise City ha ha). Now let's get this straight. I am not a diehard Fender fan, in that I find myself constantly criticizing the tone of the strats, and the somewhat metallic sound of the amps (as compared to pre CBS models). I have owned the 4x10 hod rod deville, but I had dumped it finally after getting fed up with the mid-range harsh honkiness, and I was leaning towards purchasing the Deluxe - the 1x12 60 watt version, which was my 'planned purchase'. I was prepared to quickly dismiss the CT, as some kind of glorified toy, especially as I had already heard the CT's sound samples at Fender's web site, and that led me to believe that the tone was lacking warmth, was in fact shrill, harsh. Well forget that! In spite of all the negative reviews I had read about the CT's tone, I could not believe my ears. The Fender amp simulations with the Anderson are a fantastic combination. With mild tweaking of the presets I quickly found myself in guitar heaven, and did not want to leave!. Smooth, rich, spongy, airy. Yes airy! I can't believe I am saying this. I tried the Anderson with a deluxe, and a 2x12 hot rod deville, and I much preferred the CT's sound. I didn't have to put up with the nasty mid-range honk, the overall harshness, and the noise. I find the distortion channel on the deluxe and deville models pretty well disgusting. Oink oink! I left the sound room in a daze, told one of the salesman 'Let me try it with a strat please'. I tried a rosewood noiseless pickup strat (deluxe) and a maple new American Strat - both feel great in my left hand, but the CT's flaws got exaggerated with these guitars - no magic, drat! There seemed to be empty spots where the algorithms were missing sound frequencies, and the richness disappeared. Plugging the Anderson back in I began dialing up the different Fender amp simulations. I loved them all! I couldn't care less about the british amp models, but they are fun too!. The effects are somewhat dorky as compared to professional effect units, but I like the reverbs, and the delays, chorus, flanges are definitely workable. The fun factor rating is off the board. Yum yum! It is amazing the natural fit of the Anderson's chameleon pickups with the Fender CT. It is like a sweet spot in a tennis racket, or a well-used oiled baseball glove that fits snugly around the baseball, or for those of you a bit shy of the beam, it is like a horny 6 month experienced teenage twat gripping your member. Oh joy! I spent a moment considering the fiscal responsibilities in buying this amp, but just for a moment. For all of a sudden I heard the ghost of Jimi Hendrix speaking loudly in my ear "BUY AMP!", at the same time squeezing my throat with an invisible hand. I couldn't move, couldn't breathe. 'BUY AMP' BUY AMP'. So I threw myself out of the sound room, dazed, trying to collect my senses. "All right, I'll take it." "How will you pay for it, sir?" "Who cares", I replied, "I'll pawn my mother if I have to." Of course, what you can get for an 80 year old woman who is somewhat senile and has to go to the bathroom alot is indeed suspect. Ha ha! I felt like I was walking on air on the way back home, glowing like I had just had an hour of glorious sex. The guitar felt weightless. Something strange going on here. I have a 4-6 month wait until the CT arrives at the music store. At such time I must come up with the downpayment, and issue some Jimi Hendrix Ghostly Installment Plan cheques..
somewhat gorky effects, somewhat harsh in the british amp simulations
Construction and quality: dunno, cause haven't owned long enough - the unit is back-ordered - I have to wait 4-6 weeks.
If I didn't own the Anderson, I would not go so overboard in my ravings. But the CT has cleared up my musical decisions. I ought to get paid by both companies to advertise the qualities of each product, they make such great music together..
