PCI/ISA + Rack Soundcard from ESI

I was looking for a card of good quality and reasonably priced that can run on my config without conflict with the chipset of my motherboard.

Config:
Athlon 64 X2 4200 +
Gigabyte K8NF-9-RH Chipset nForce4-4x
2x1GB Corsair TwinX DDR400

everything is running Win XP SP2 Cubase SX3, Tracktion, various VST and VSTi.
I installed the latest driver input.

I was looking primarily an opportunity to route the output signal alternately to a Headphone (AKG 240 Studio) or monitors (next purchase). Mix with a table, multiple entries, is the icing on the cake.

UTILIZATION

The plant did not pose any particular problem.
I had a little trouble to set up Cubase (but that's because I had not used multiple entries - my previous card had only one stereo input).
Worse direct monitoring in Cubase took me a little cabbage, but after half an hour of tinkering, everything is back to normal.
The manual is simple and ... virtually useless.
And, oh joy, I have not had a compatibility problem with my motherboard.

GETTING STARTED

Difficult to judge the stability of the driver, I did that for several hours. I put direct the latest driver (v1.1.7). I use Cubase and a bunch of samples ... of all kinds (ethnic, symphonic percussion ...).
I am currently on 5.8 ms with 256 samples.
I have not yet opened for big projects, but it will soon.
I will direr more later.
A single black dot. I brach an SM57 on input 1 (XLR) and there, even with the gain at max, the sound ..... very low. I guess the XLR is used only in case you need a 48V phantom power supply.
But be aware that the card I have here is an opportunity that my card dealer loaned me to test on my config. So maybe the preamp to the XLR is dead ...
Anyway, it's not a problem for me too. I plug the SM57 on my mixing desk and send the output to the input jacks (with 4 dB) and presto, voila ...

I put 8 for the XLR input and lack otpique, but 10 for the rest.

EDIT: Arfff ... It's me I do not know ;-)... I found for the XLR. You just mean the panel that I am plugged in and not XLR Jack to the inputs e 1 2. In fact, it works very well ... I'll be able to turn my desk mix.

EDIT 2: DirectWIRE is something really nice ... but beware, if you have eg. routed to outputs 1 and 2 of WME to inputs 1 and 2 of the ASIO driver when you're in cubase, you can not record sound from Jack / XLR inputs corresponding to 1 or 2. Moral use of DirectWIRE disconnects the physical inputs ... A parallel connection would have been better ESI sir!!

OVERALL OPINION

I've had 4 hours and I really enjoy my CD to récouter.
I needed a card that works on my set-up .... Mission accomplished.
10 entries at this price, it's great.
The sound quality is stirring for the award. What momentum!
I wanted an ECHO Mia Midi, but there is an incompatibility with my chipset (snif. ..) With Mia, I counted my change table mix to take advantage of output routing.
There, I have everything at hand and then they sold me the new one to 269 € (200 € for OCCAZ I'm currently testing).
The value for money ?.... HUGE! Really amazing!! I do not understand why we do not hear more about.
EDIT: After a month of use, I am thrilled. This card is a small bomb! Remarkable stability!
I just wish the abscense an S / PDIF optical input and my ToneLab in-10dBv (4 dBU one was great) ... But hey, considering the price, it shakes serious!
Is what I would do this choice? Without a doubt!
