"Cut Itself" in Channel Layer

Yo, when I'm chopping up samples and putting them in the channel layer, I usually like to play around with my trigger finger and get a feel for the melody I want, but the samples keep overlapping, and there is no "Cut Itself" feature for the channel layer. Anybody know what to do? Thanks.
