« I made all my guitars! »
Published on 02/21/12 at 03:58Ribbon Microphone
I just returned on a point on the advice of "Ericthegreat"
it is important not to 48V phantom power on the R121!
OVERALL OPINION
I use it for home recording for at least two years.
plugged into a preamp DBX 386. (Ya better but I have one more round)
I use it primarily for taking HP guitars, Clean or very saturated ...
before the R121, I used an SM57 (and) or an E609 ... sometimes by adding a static atmosphere ...
but never be satisfied with the results in the high end ... it was often loud and very tiring to hear from 2.5KHz ... So often I spent many hours looking for mic positions until the day I bought the R121 ... since my other microphones are kept in the closet!
I used the R121 to catch as much HP as proximity to intakes atmospheres (depending on what is played, the result I want and get the place that I have in the mix)!
to summarize, the R121 is in my opinion, much more natural in the high frequencies than anything I've used so far and that, whatever the distance between the microphone and HP!
PS: I would have probably bought a 2 nd if it was not as expensive ...
