The Zvex Ringtone is an extremely cool and unique effect for your guitar and any other electronic instrument. It's, not so basically, a spacey, chorusy, delay effect. You can definitely tell that it's a product of the late 60's! It's very rare and was made for a brief period of time in the late 1960's. There is also a smaller version of the Zvex Ringtone , but this review is for the larger version. It has 1/4" jacks on the front panel to make all of your connections and it isn't rackmountable as it sits like a mini guitar amp head.


UTILIZATION

There isn't much involved with the Zvex Ringtone , although I can't remember all of the controls off the top of my head. I don't think though that there's much more control beyond setting the volume and setting the amount of the effect that you'd like as it pretty much does it's thing. Good luck finding a manual, but you don't need it.


SOUND QUALITY

The sound of the Zvex Ringtone is definitely unlike any other effects that I've used before. Sure, it sounds a bit like chorus, a bit like reverb and delay, and a bit of something else kind of weird, but usually you'll hear those effects coming together from separate places and not an all in one like the Zvex Ringtone is. It sounds great on electric guitar of course, but probably would be cool on some vintage keys or anything else that you want to sound super spacey.


OVERALL OPINION

Although you guys out there probably won't be able to find a Fender Zvex Ringtone since they are seldom seen, it's still a cool effect to know about just in case! It'll add space and depth to your sound and is perfect for getting that super spacey guitar tone. Of course there are and easier ways to do it these days with digital effects, but the Zvex Ringtone has a special quality you won't fine elsewhere.

Ring Modulator Analog (mono jack, true bypass, 9v battery).

This adds a small bte acute low note and the note being played, as will a harmonizer, but not directly related to the note played.
These "harmonics" are calculated based on a note of rference, virtual, inaudible, fixed and adjustable.
The PDAL has the particularity to have these 8 DIFFERENT SETTING THE "harmonic", and a switch to switch to the next rglage (to monitor the grid we play, for example) .

Zvex sell (too expensive I think) a system that connected to his pedals on the sector.

Configuration:

Mode "random" moves from one modulator in a random image order, speed adjustable by a knob.
This gives a nice effect rhythm trs.

But it is in "no no" there as much as invented abroad.

SOUND QUALITY

The sound of the guitar is totally prserv and the sound of "harmonics" add is the typical sound weird and a little of ring modulators.

I use it with guitars, and that is your exact j'esprai.
On occasion, I will try with a synth.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is one of the most bizarre effects in Zvex, yet the king of strange effects!

UTILIZATION

This is a pure expression of pedals. Therefore difficult to judge its use.
The format of the pedals is small, as with all Zvex. CHAC and handling mini potentiomtres is uncomfortable for large fingers and it is easy to drgler a knob rgler wanting another!
Modes for random image or squentiel, a tap tempo or external expression pedals would bring more simplicity of use but also the possibility to easily change the speed in real-time scanning for game effects spectacular.
Ditto for the balance effect / dry signal only accessible with a screwdriver in the indoor pedals!
Apart from these remarks, the pedals a delight to use: to express it I say.

So 9 / 10 for these small default.

SOUND QUALITY

The effects are they effective, responsive and ralistes? Same conclusion. Effective: yes! Adapted ralistes: you have to almost call for this purpose on the ism ... the effect is REALLY alien!
Regardless, here again, it is express sound. But the effect is fantastic.

OVERALL OPINION

As usual with Zvex, the quality is at the appointment.
Now, if your adventurous you'll love. If you are looking for an experienced sound, versatile and easy to use, you'll curse the pedals.
The price? No comments ...

I am a big fan of the Zvex products line of guitars pedals. They have built very high quality guitar pedals that just sound incredible! I have owned several pedal from this company and all of them have sounded simply amazing.

This pedal is a pitch or ring modulation pedal with essentially is a synth type pedal that gives you guitar a synth type effects that is cool for certain parts of songs or during solos and things or that sort. They are not used in high frequency because they are very wacky and crazy sounding and don't exactly mesh for long periods of time in and music style.

SOUND QUALITY

These pedals absolutely sound amazing! The tone from these pedals are simply addictive to play with. Almost to addictive in some instances because I can see myself playing around with the sequencers more than actually playing the guitar. These pedals can be a bit of fun and sometimes if you aren't careful pull you away from working on being competent or efficient at the guitar and wasting time dinking around with effects.

This pedal has 8 ways of synth operation or 8 different voicings or waves lengths. Each position changes how the synth reacts in its wave pattern which will give you a whole new style of ring modulation.

OVERALL OPINION

At new these pedal come in at around $400.....ouch...that is expensive. That is the one problem with the Zvex pedals in my opinion. They have great sounding units but they are very expensive in price. You must have to really like the sound of a ring modulator in order to slap down $400 to get this pedal. You can buy a TC Electronics rack effects processor like a G Major and get a modulation in it with an assortment of different effects for the exact same price as this pedal.

While this pedal does sound fantastic it is not worth price of admission. I can understand the quality that goes into this pedal but it is a hard buy for someone to get for one effect, even though you have some versatility.

There aren't many ringtone modulators out there like this, so this pedal is pretty unique in terms of what it does. Basically, it generates a signal with each of the small miniature pots. You can tune those pots to whatever frequency you want and create this musical ... noise. It has eight different pots to tune, a switch to select between how you want to select the frequencies, a speed knob to run through the different frequencies at your desired speed and a hidden pot underneath to allow you to mix the original amp signal with the ringtone modulator's signal.

UTILIZATION

Zvex really outdid himself with this pedal. There's so much going on inside this tiny box, but it's all easy to use and handle. Simply select a pot and turn it to whatever frequency you want. It's really that simple. The manual is decent in terms of what it does, but I find it's best to just play with this pedal as there aren't too many things like it out there. Most ringmods simply have one or a few frequencies, but this has tons of them to choose from. Be sure to check out Zvex's video on this pedal.

SOUND QUALITY

The pedal really does sound great. You can get all kinds of bizarre and unique sounds with this pedal, just like most Zvex pedals out there. The coolest feature I've found is the ability to let the pedal run through the frequencies at the speed you're looking for. This allows you to play a phrase and not have to keep hitting the pedal every time you want to change it. Very trick. The actual frequencies have some nice sweep going on, and you can get some interesting sine wave-esque tones going on. The randomized feature is a bit bizarre, but that's mostly just for random noise.

OVERALL OPINION

If you've never tried a ring modulator before, check this pedal out. It's one of the kings of the ring modulator world, and the features it has packed inside this little box are ridiculous ... in a good way. The price is a bit expensive, so I recommend trying to buy one used if you can. Also, be sure to watch Zvex's various videos on this pedal if you've never actually heard a ringmod before.

A ring modulator works like this: it usually generates a reference signal (adjustable) frequency F1.
You bring in a signal of frequency F2 with your instrument.
The ring modulator you out 2 signals, the first F1-F2 = the second = F1 + F2.
The resulting sound is totally distorted, very rich in harmonics, like a metal percussion.

If you are looking for a classic effect, go your way.

If you like the sound hack, you'll love.
It's like the Electro-Harmonix, it just go away into madness sound, but still a cut above ...
