I got his guitar for chrimbo 2 years ago and I think it was £329.99 but i'm not certain. I got it from Simpsons Guitars And Things in Edinbrugh and I got it because I was getting bored of my classical guitar and wanted a electric.

There are loads of things I like about my guitar. The first thing is the way it looks. SG shape is a classic shape that i love. I also like that way it sounds. It sounds quite gritty with distortion but sounds mellow and peacefull without. I love my humbuckers aswell :P

Good construction. Good quality although strings often buzz.

Good beginner guitar! My first electric guitar and I love it. A good value for money buy.

This G-400 was purchased through Musician's Friend Catalog. I called MF up, they sent the guitar to me and I was playing it by the end of the week. I got this guitar because I wanted a change of style from the Lotus Stratocastor style I was playing at the time. I really liked the agressive "devil horns" or "flame topped" guitar but I couldn't afford a Gibson so i figured I would give this a try. I paid about $450 for it.

I love the styling of the body. It is aggressive yet classic. It has a nice "Fuzzy" sound to it. It carries the nice name of Epiphone made BY Gibson. The red just adds to the majesty of the guitar. The way its got the double cut out allows me to reach all 22 frets effortle…

The fret board is different, not really bad, but different because its wide unlike a strat's fret board. The g-400 is more of a back up guitar than a lead guitar.

It's modeled after the 1962 Gibson SG I believe. It's a solid bodied guitar made of Mahogany. It has two covered pick ups that is controled by two seperate volume and two seperate tone knobs. Its no Gibson, but one would have a difficult time telling the difference.

This is a great "bang for the buck" guitar. I would highly recommend this guitar. It has killer tone and can make many bad amps sound nice. It's way easy to play on.

I did not buy this guitar but my cousin did. He paid $360 at Daddys Junky Music in Boston MA. He loves SG's being the reason why he bought it.

I have played it several times.it sounds great on distortion high or low. The clean tone is even better. You can hear each and every note clear The pickups are great. All frets are easy to reach because of how far back the cutaways are. This is great for solos and any chords. This guitar looks plain awesome. It is put together in the U.S.A. as it says on the back of the headstock also but made overseas but thats no big deal because the labor costs are cheaper making you pay less for an awesome guitar. the only thing i dont like about this is that the strap button isnt on the end of the cutaway but on the back of the body where the screws would be if it had a bolt on neck. This makes it unbalanced so if you are wearing it on the strap the guitar leans forward and the neck end goes down to the floor.

The construction is nice. There hasnt been any changes made to this guitar yet. i.e. nothing has had to be tightened it is very well put together. I havent played a Gibson S.G. but im sure this must come pretty close to the quality.

All in all this is not just great for the price its great for any price they could give it. This is a real quality instrument at an awesome price. I would have to say if your going to get a guitar and you like to play any or every kind of music get this guitar because of its great tone and looks.

I was looking for my second guitar in my local music shop when i saw this on the rack. After seeing it i knew i had to have it. 2 Hours later i walked out with it. It cost me 477$ CDN. It has a nice Ebony finish and silver hardware.

This guitar is amazing to play. The set in thicker neck makes speed solos a breeze. This guitar also has amazing sustain, sometimes too much! Tapping with this guitar is helped greatly by the sustain. The Grover turners stay in tune for days. The Gibson covered humbuckers and nice and meaty on Dist channel and have great acoustic sound on clean(if u dont watch your EQ controlls it will get kinda bassy)Ive herd people say they had trouple with the 3 position pic…

The guitar is kinda head heavy but that can be helped with a good leather strap.

The guitar is well built. Ive accidently banged it a couple of times and the finnish held up nicely and there was no ding.Again ive had no trouble with the pickup selector.

For the money this guitar is a top choice. It is great for many kinds of music(i play mostly rock/metal)and you wont be dissapointed with the quality. There is no dought that the gibson Sg is better but its also a lot more. So bottom line, if you're looking for a good guitar with a lower budget,BUY THIS GUIAR!!!!!

its made perfectly, no faults or flaws the neck is smoothly glased and the body feels amazing!

BUY THIS GUITAR IT OWNS YOU YOU MUST BUY IT.

no if you want an extrememly good guitar and cant afford the gibson sg go for this because its the best ive ever played!

Bought from Percy Priors music in U.K. Paid about £345 for it. After reading and hearing from other people who have the guitar, i understand this is at the top end of the model's pricing, but its definately worth it. it came with gibson pickups already so this may have upped the price.

When i first picked up the guitar it just felt right. the neck is smooth and feels better than the thinner strat necks i've played. the tuning pegs are a joy to use, they rarely go out of tune even when i'm really hammering in with some halen. i've found it responds very well to detuning, even to drop b (and thats with regular slinkys). the model has great playability and tone and a great sustain, making it …

the neck is a little heavy but you only notice when you aren't playing and you're just standing without holding it. sitting down is fine also

the construction is great, the neck joint is really solid and of course the double cut lets you get to the highest frets without hinderance. the gibson pickups are great so if its standard (i think it is) for them to come with epiphone ones, i'd recommend changing them. mines a cherry red colour, and really looks good. the finish is nice, though keep it out of harms way, nocks can occur if it's bashed about, but even these are in the form of a tiny one that you have to know its there to see. the pickup selector is good quality and never pings back from treble and rhythm to both as some cheaper copies have been known to.

this is truly a fine instrument. i have compared it to gibsons and in light of its quality it could be easy to mistake it for its more expensive brother, and its price is a bonus. in my eyes its a gibson that is at a bargain price, but again i would advise to change the pickups if they come as epiphones to gibsons or others of your preference.

Purchased this for £230 from Sound Control music store in Sheffield (price is a bit higher now); I was turned onto the SG by Tony Iommi and the feel and sound of it suits me better than any other guitar.

It has the nicest neck of any guitar I've ever played - my Mexican Fender Strat comes close but nothing, even a £1000+ Ibanez, can touch this one. I know they all have a tendency to be very varied, and this one according to guitar techs I've spoken to is a very well made one as they go, but on the whole the G-400's I've played are very good.

Epiphone pickups really suck, so I had a Seymour Duncan SH-5 and SH-1 combination fitted which always blows me away; also the "Vintage" (read, "Cheap…

Epiphone pickups really suck, so I had a Seymour Duncan SH-5 and SH-1 combination fitted which always blows me away; also the "Vintage" (read, "Cheap") tuning heads are sh*t, so have some Grovers (like me) or Schallers put on that screw down from the front as well as the back fitted instead - this makes the sound and tuning stability miles better as well.
Other thing is, the pickup switches can be a bit dodgy, but that's a matte of ten minutes to sort out on the workbench.

As I said, mine is very very good - has a FANTASTIC slim-taper neck, and the neck-to-body joint is really nice too, though I think they're doing the joint differently now. Balance is good, but the neck (mahogany) is a little heavier than the alder body. Everything else is great - fabulous paint-job on mine and the fretboard is all vey well-laid and stays that way if you use lemon-oil on it when re-stringing.

Bottom line, as a totally stock (no modifications) guitar, some aspects do suck as I mentioned, but anyone who is serious about the guitar and wants to keep it will have them altered anyway. Easiest description I can give is, the guitar itself get a 5, but because they need to keepthe price affordable, the hardware and things that are added on are not of the same quality. As mine is now though, a definite 5.

My advice - get this baby set up with the pickups, tuners and good toggle switch that it deserves (and maybe a set of Schaller straplocks, as the strap button is on the back of the neckjoint) then it will reward you.

Nice tone, not bad quality for the price, good sustain. Really cool looks.

Machine heads... They just suck. Will change 'em as soon as I have time. If you gonna use strings with gauge less then 11, change them right away, guitar will nor say in tune any long. The wiring is not as good I as I want.

Look above. But all the wood work is fine. Maybe just missing some minor details that SG Supreme has.

I bought it from my friend for CZK 9900,-
I wanted this guitar ´cause I like AC/DC and Angus Young has this guitar. But I couldn´t afford the original Gibon SG.

I like its look and sound. It´s deep cherry red,has silver pickups and slightly green tuning machines. It sounds like the original SG,it has that hot and scorching sound that breakes the walls.

I think that tuning machines could be more stable.

It is shaped like SG.Body and neck is made of mahogany.Fingerboard´s made of rosewood, I think.Inlays are trapezoid pearls.Pickups are Epiphone humbuckers with silver cover.

    I love this Scorching Guitar!

The Epiphone G-400 is basically the company's take on the classic Gibson SG Standard guitar, but at a price that is easier to manage for younger or beginner players who might not have the $1,300+ for the real thing. It features a mahogany body, a SET mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard, 22 frets, classic trapezoid inlays, vintage style tuners, a typical tune-o-matic/stopbar tailpiece bridge setup, and a pair of Epiphone humbuckers wired to the standard setup of dual volumes and dual tones as well as a 3 way switch. It also features the nice glossy cherry finish which really looks well done for a cheap guitar and is definitely giving the Gibson something to consider... they're built in Chi…

It also features the nice glossy cherry finish which really looks well done for a cheap guitar and is definitely giving the Gibson something to consider... they're built in China nowadays though I have seen Korean and Indonesian models as well.

    UTILIZATION

The design of this guitar is more ergonomic than many other guitars in this price range. The SG's design in general is quite nice and in this package it works quite well. The body is aptly sculpted/contoured, and the overall weight is quite light for something made of mahogany. The neck has a profile close to that of the Gibson "60s" which is a thin yet still reasonably beefy profile, great for just an all-round awesome feeling neck. One con is the glossy finish that Epiphone uses on the back of the neck, which can impede playing fast after long periods due to the finish getting sticky/gunky. Also, the neck heel is not the greatest design as it can be a bit blocky, but it's certainly far and away better than other Gibson design instruments with even bigger heels on the neck joint. Getting a good sound out of this guitar is pretty easy. The stock pickups are not stellar, but they do a fair job at covering a range of tones from clean to mean and everything in between.

    SOUNDS

The tones out of this guitar aren't bad by any means. I'm typically not a fan of Epiphone pickups and this guitar is really no exception, but given the price point that it's at it doesn't sound too bad. Using a clean amplifier yields some nice dark jazzy tones courtesy of the mahogany construction. However, the thinner design also means the guitar has a brighter, more buoyant tone than say, a Les Paul. The neck pickup is nice and bassy and works well both clean and driven, especially for more fluid lead tones. The bridge pickup is cool as well, being nice and medium output, perfect for some classic rock or even metal tones if you're using the right rig. Using both pickups together gives a nice nasally sound that is great on a clean or dirty tone and can give that quacky "Strat" type tone to an extent which is pretty interesting.

    OVERALL OPINION

All in all I think the Epiphone G-400 is a great guitar for someone looking for an instrument that is well priced and apes that classic devilish SG look. It's well built and plays well out of the box. The stock parts are not the best in the world, but the feel is surprising for a cheaper guitar. The set neck construction is a real selling point, and for those seeking a Gibson type tone in a lighter weight, cheaper package, you can't really go wrong with the Epiphone G-400.
