«  Good pickups, but limited versatility .. »

Cardioid condenser microphone. It has no output transformer and requires a 48 V phantom power. It has no attenuator or high-pass filter. The capsules of the KM 184 and KM 185 (hypercardioid version) are acoustically substantially identical and are in the direct lineage of the famous KM84. on the other hand, in relation to this illustrious predecessor, the internal electronics of the two KM long way. The heads of these microphones including the KM 184 (micro referred to in this notice) is now home to the impedance converter and preamp, which can be used with a range of accessories away from power module. This is a much greater flexibility compared to the KM 84 (which has never railed against the apparent lack of flexibility of this wonderful sensor?).

OVERALL OPINION

The KM 184 is not particularly a microphone to do everything, it is indeed particularly sensitive to plosives, and even happy that the foam windscreen that comes with the microphones are very effective, because without them making a voice would be close simply impossible! At a meeting post-synchronization, I perched an actress with a 184. The microphone was positioned high enough, and covered the mouth. By replacing the 184 (so cardioid) with a 185 hypercardioid), I realized that even at a distance of from 35 to 40 cm, unless the room I heard ..
Live, I love acoustic guitars back fairly closely with one or two microphones cardio, I tried it several times with torque is 184 KM, but back in the treble is really too sensitive. Unless the cords are devoid of all gloss, the sound literally got tears eardrums! In reversal of acoustic piano, these microphones do not shine by their quality, and the results are really questionable. That being said, 60 cm away from, things work out, and from 1 meter, so good, so these microphones are well suited to instruments requiring a certain amount to say.
If the insulation of the source relative to another instrument or the environment is essential, the KM 184 is not the best choice. Prefer him 185 KM! on the other hand, in a more "easy" no conflict of sound sources, the 184 version is sure to be the most suitable.
The fact remains that the 184 are good microphones, and do not hesitate to place them slightly off-axis: it is one of the advantages of small capsule. Their disadvantage is lower sensitivity due to the small area set in motion by sound vibrations.
Finally, good mics but still the feeling of the "behind the fence" ..
