TopicPosted on 02/27/2006 at 06:45:12distortion?? help...
hi.
I just bought the emu 1616m to record samples and also various instruments with a microphone.
I had problems before to easily record and listen music with wavelab without changing settings every minute, but now when i record something, it only plays it with alot of distortion, it's almost only distortion... does anyone has an idea why...?

You have to set the levels before you record, from your mixer
your mixer should have 2 LEDs, one that says SIGNAL(green) and one that says O.L. (red)
play whatever your recording as loud as you will be playing it, and adjust the volume so that the green is on as much as possible, without the red ever (OL) ever turning on. The red (OL) light signals clipping, and that causes an electronic distortion. NEVER LET THE RED LIGHT GLOW!
This process is known as "Setting the Levels", and you should do it before every recording.
