problems with playback levels

Ive got the alesis usb 2.0 8 track with cubase le

Ive got the levels on my alesis mixer peaking. When I check the levels on the virtual mixer, they seem ok while recording, but when i play the track back, its very quiet. So quiet that i cant hear when I am recording another track. THis makes it very difficult for me to jam with myself and record it all.

Can someone please help diagnose the problem??????
