latency while recording guitar over another track.

Hi all, im using cubase sx, im very new to the whole computer recording thing. Im using a sony vaio FEseries, brand new.

Ok heres my problem im sure its common but i cant fix it.

I recorded acoustic guitar and turned out great, now im recording a solo over it, i can listen to my solo playing (using monitor option) which is great, i can even add effects and listen to it while i record. Anyway, while playing the solo every note transfers about 4 or 5 seconds late in the recording (and while im listening) Which pretty much takes all the fun away

I tried to look for an option to control latency/delay time but i cant find it.

Any help will make me feel MUCH better lol
