Thread recording drums

I have built a new studio and am ready to begin using it. In the past it has been my experience that when recording drums, I get a huge bleed from cymbals into drum mics. How do I stop this? With a gate on each drum?
The Behringer XR4400 Multigate Pro Quad Noise Gate claims to have a frequency response setting so (for example) a snare mic won't open to low frequencies from other drums.
I wondered if that would work opposite for keeping cymbal noise out of the the mics.
Any help appreciated.
