1 Innovative PUNK recording techniques.
I am recording a west coast punk sounding band, (Pennywise, Face to Face, Bad Religion, NOFX etc.) I'm on extremely high end gear. G4000+, access to any mic i could possibly want. I know punk strategy dictates that less is more, but the above mentioned bands have made some really good quality recordings of real modern punk. Right now I'm thinking of putting the drums in a booth and putting the guitarists in one room both close miked on the cabs with 57s and using a c414 with the figure 8 opened up as a room mic. I say the 414 because i want a full low end sound that most royers or nice over heads are gonna make an already crunchy sound entirely to tinny. The vocals will be front miked with a u87 or the 414 (its my favorite mic...sometimes i snuggle with it at night,) and side miked with a 58. I think I'm only gonna mic the kick and snare and use r-122s for over heads. The bass will probably just run in through a crane song on the brit rock setting. Anyone else have any sweet ideas?
