« Gand a classic studio »
Published on 03/12/11 at 12:33It's a compressor - limiter dual mono or stereo. Patterns are identical to the famous UREI 1176 LN built by and by Universal Audio.
The trip time can be very fast or very slow.
the look is quite nice, but the knobs are unfortunately much smaller than the mono version. Everything fits in a rack unit two which is not very deep or very heavy. there is still something to ask how they use space in the single ...
The connectors are XLR.
UTILIZATION
The configuration includes all the classic settings of the compressor. mode "all" that appears on the vintage by pressing all the buttons ratio was replaced by one notch further beyond the ratio of 20 and aptly named "all".
bypass is a great mystery to me. bypassed, the circuit does not work, but the settings of input and ouput act anyway. So if we make the compressor work a lot (which is pretty cool at the natural sturation the device), you bypass the ears exploded.
In short, small buttons, the finishes and how "all" written on the plate while it's not very rock'n'roll ...
SOUND QUALITY
The effects are very characteristic: There are the famous sound of 1176, and is ultimately what we asked.
Sound very effective to give the potato and saturate slightly snares.
It can also be very gentle on votes or anything.
Ratio = 1 mode is also expected to capture the slight grain characteristic of this device, even without compressing.
Very nice also on guitars.
OVERALL OPINION
I use it for two years. I tried DIFFERENT models: 1176 mono Distressors, dbx 160a, compressors different lamps.
The sound is unique and very useful when you want a vintage sound a little or a little fat (and God knows if it is fashionable these days)
But it is not appropriate for a compression technique and unobtrusive.
Value for money: it is less expensive than two bp 1176 and it takes less space, but it's still not given for what it is: it is a very schematic become classics. Many friends have made it for nothing - after he should have time to play it, you can not do everything!
It's still a very cool machine and not so expensive machinery.
