Thread BR-1200, unfriendly user manual, great productions!

I have been using the Boss BR1200 for nearly a year. It does excellent production but, the manual is confusing and sometimes leaves out a step or two. The latest issue that I find myself pulling my hair out over is the vocal harmonizer. This effect is sweet and I have used it before with no problem. Now I use a female vocal and I find the harmony warbling horribly. Can anyone help me?

Could you please tell me how to record a single live track with no backing on my br 1200 recording machine? Any help is much appreaciated.
