help required Microphone works but then cuts out for a couple seconds here and there.

So this is totally be a noob question, but I'm a noob to this stuff!

When i yell, the audio indicator on the gain switch on xlrmic port 1 reaches red (i know this is too high) for a bit, the mic will completely stop picking anything up for about 2-3 seconds. I'm wondering if my unit is defective or if its just trying to hard and powering down for a moment.
all lights stay illuminated.
Things ive tried:

External phantom power instead of onunit 48v switch.
using original cable (no extension)
usb 3.0 port
usb 3.1 port
usb 2.0 port
I dont remember if its the 3.0 or the 3.1 that has DAC up support but I tried that as well.
disabling windows sounds
disabling unused sound devices

when it stays green it apears to never cut out. AGAIN sorry if this is a total no brainier.

even when its not red if i blow air into it, it cuts out intermittently
