Before beginning my opinion, I prciser I'm not familiar trs of such hardware. I was looking for a convenient device for models / DMOS with my group.
I first bought the Presonus Firepod in, but got home she did not work! Back to the store and APRS trials, three in stock did not work (!). So I tried something else, and I came across this Tascam. A little skeptical about the USB, I ask the seller to connect, and I make quick tests, looks ok and I take.
Be careful, it's USB 2.0, so it must be a USB 2.0 port on the PC.
on the other hand, ngatif point, there is no insert on this interface, because it is a shame, however convenient.
Leaves invest in the stuff, I wanted to serve a whole group, so a minimum of eight microphone inputs (for battery) and in this price range, there is no crowd ...
In addition to all the XLR inputs have phantom power (in groups of 4), very practical.

My computer config:
Acer centrino laptop PC 2006, 1GB RAM, 80GB Toshiba hard drive 7200 rpm / min (important), Windows XP (optimized and stable) and Adobe Audition 3 as squenceur.
An old Pentium 4 with Windows XP compltement Bugu is not my PC for music, but even when it works!
UTILIZATION
Level installation is simple, you take the supplied CD, you install the drivers, thanks to you plug supplied USB cable (mine is 1.20 meters) and it works.
The panel config is trs limit but at the same time I do not even know what are the rglages, so I did not touch at all.
I open my Audition 3, audio options, I chose the Tascam, I agree and I am a flop with input / output.
No problem reporting (on both my PC), I did not even read any manual.
I did not install bundled with Cubase, I'm used to hearing and working so I did not see the usefulness.
GETTING STARTED

Their longest component lasted about 8 minutes, 12 tracks I was nervous as a plant, and although not perfect.
It also allowed me to test the digital inputs, which in fact is an entry like the others, except that a Tascam puts in 48,000 Hz, and thus the session in Audition as well. I do not know what has changed, but walked like that 44,100 Hz
Otherwise, I registered my mixer 9 tracks simultaneously (yes, Mr. Toms has 5 so you have plenty of tracks, ah ... the young) and he had read three or four tracks tmoins (click , bass, one or two guitars).

Sound, pre amps are neutral, no hiss or hum, the sound that comes is the sound of the instrument, nothing less.
The few rglages: Finally, just have rgler the gain is sufficient, if there were more (eg rglage bass / treble) would be a more complicated and can be no good quality. = Increasing the rglages are in the APRS squenceur all fawns.
The quality of the case, it's heavy and well finished.
