Published on 01/31/02 at 15:00I needed a new guitar so I had my friend that has been playing bass for years help me out at the Guitar Center. He pointed out this bad ax that was all black with a odd-shaped body. Unlike my previous guitar this had the floyd-rose bridge. It was a steal at $300 bones used so I bought it on the spot.
It has a great sound to it and the action was superb. Very easy to play. Along with the floyd-rose bridge and the locks at the top of the neck this guitar hardly ever went out of tune. With the floyd-rose bridge I could make a lot of cool sounds that I couldn't with my old guitar. Finally, this guitar has a wicked look that somewhat resembles an ax. The looks alone make me want to play this thing.
It had a couple of nicks and need a few adjustments, but once I had all that worked out it was great. Also, this guitar is somewhat heavy weight-wise for my taste, but who cares when it sounds this great.
The only drawbacks on this guitar were that it was heavy (weight) and its odd shape made it awkward at first. The finish is nice, but since I bought it a lot of chips on the body- it is probably more my fault though because I banged it up a bit. The neck is really nice and thin just the way I like it. This lets me reach to make those chords easier, etc. It seems like a very durable product even though I have banged it up a lot. For the cash this was a very quality product and I am very impressed.
A great product especially for begginers. The springy action makes it almost effortless to play. Great sound, cool looking body, and it was affordable. It almost never goes out of tune! I prefer the floyd-rose bridge now. My next guitar will probably be a Jackson except with more refinements (volume knobs, gold hardware, etc.) If you see a cheap Jackson go for it.
