E-mu has announced that the Proteus VX is now freeware! E-mu distributes it directly for free now on their website.
This version does not require any specific E-mu hardware to work. The Proteus VX can be used standalone or VSTi. The soundbank is the same as the original Proteus V.
The download is only 60 MB but seems a bit slow at the moment (maybe E-mu has too many simultaneous downloads!).
You can download the software for free but have to subscribe to the E-mu newsletter first (and then unsubscribe if wanted…).
