Serum allows you to create oscillators using up to 256 wavetables. You can use either the 140+ included wavetables or import audio files or external wavetables. You can then morph between the wavetables via crossfading or harmonic/spectral morphing and can also draw directly on the waveform and generate waveforms by using FFT additive synthesis. These waves can then be processed (fades, crossfades), normalized and exported.
Serum includes multiple tools to manipulate the wavetables in real time: FM, AM, RM, Sync, Remap modes and graphic editor are available.
A modulation section allows for connecting source elements to destinations via drag and drop, and Xfer included a filter section with morphing options, a 10-effect rack (reverb, distortion, flanger, phaser, compressor, EQ…) that can be re-ordered as well as a 16-voice unison feature. Note that the effect parameters can be uses as modulation destinations.
Serum is a VST, AU and AAX 32 and 64-bit plug-in for Mac OS X and Windows. It has an introductory price of $129 until October 31st. Regular price is $189 and you can download a trial version (20 minute-sessions, saving is disabled) at www.xferrecords.com.
