UTILIZATION
Simple is easier said !
Real-time yes
programming is a bit more complex.
The editing patterns is laborious.
The pads are proper, on the other hand.
The manual is very explicit, and well supplied, the list of patterns and figures
SOUNDS
Roland's Sound ... nothing more.
You can take it anywhere without special issues.
The bass sounds are light
The pads respond very well.
LCD display is sufficient to understand
The menu functions are ergonomic
there are only two layers for drum samples, just a little, at this price ...
OVERALL OPINION
I already have the series of E-mu, this certainly is not a Bar-Box, but the sequence is like, except that the sound is much fuller.
The nice sides of the Dr880,
* The function chaining patterns (Song)
* The guitar amp emulations (Small GT 5), technology "Cosm"
* The function arranger Drums & Bass (Style)
* Mixing Drums / Bass / Line in
* 500 factory patterns of drums & bass
* Guitar & bass amp simulations
The black sides,
- Not enough internal memory to store Users, it's its weak point, imagine 10 tracks, each with 16 patterns, and it is dead ...
This product has withstood a simm card, but here, the designers have decided otherwise.
And one is entitled to "memory full"
- No possibility to program and control change on channel 2, the bass, we can pilot only on one driver on the 10th, the drums.
I said in steering pattern, no time "to expand"
- The bass sounds are approximate!
- Stereo Effects not really
Apart from that it is a robust machine, an excellent companion to any field work for your instrument with a headset without disturbing the neighbors, with a multitude of rhythms already in the box.
Much more memory storage, the bass sounds more realistic stereo FX, and .... Your turn to play Mr. Roland.
