The Lakland 44–14 and 55–14 are more “standardized” and thus more affordable versions of the 44–94 and 55–94 basses. The instruments are still manufactured in the USA.
The Tobacco Sunburst and Candy Apple Red versions feature a alder body and the Natural finish has a ash body. They all include a quartersawn maple neck with graphite reinforcements, and you can choose between maple fingerboard with black Dot inlays or rosewood with maple Dot inlays.
Both 4 and 5-string basses are equipped with Lakland MM-J pickups (humbucker in bridge position and single coil in neck/middle), a Lakland LH3 preamp with 3-band EQ, Blend and master volume with push/pull function for preamp bypass. A 3-way switch allows for the bridge pickup coil tap. Tuners are Hipshot and the bridge is a Lakland Dual Access.
Scale length on the four string version (44–14) is 34" and nut width is 1.6". These dimensions raise to 35" and 1.81" on the 5-string 55–14.
Both basses are available in three Candy Apple Red, Natural and Tobacco Sunburst finishes. Price of the 44–14 is $2595 and $2775 for the 55–14.
