UTILIZATION

The handle is comfortable to use, thin and fast, with a veneer of good quality. Access to acute is easy. The weight is very correct, good overall balance. These are qualities known and recognized at YAMAHA even at this price level.

The sound is easy to obtain. However, the balance of microphones in dire need of escalation: when one moves from the mid position to a "tad" micro serious is now more mushy and greasy.

The buttons look a little too easily (volume and tone).

The shape is attractive and looks FENDER exchange that is seen everywhere. on the other hand, black hides microphones on the black body may seem a little dull in the long run.

The finish is very good at this price level. The only problem I had on the metal clasp on the strap which the thread was messed up but nothing bad (except when it dropped, I picked up the body of the bass in the face lol).

SOUNDS

Style Music Group: rock, blues and soul a bit. I currently play on an amp HARTKE VX 2510 250 W.

And here I will mention the little Achilles heel of the instrument: the sound! It is not bad but lacks nearby fishing and especially personality. Flat, flat ledge like "soft knee" and very neutral! The pickups are also quite noisy.

Before my HARTKE, I had a little Peavey Basic 112: as it was a small amp, I had not noticed this weakness. on the other hand, playing in the studio on a nice amp AMPEG 400 w, poor fishing and staining was evident. Then with my HARTKE, I tried all settings impossible and unimaginable amp that does have a 10 band eq, a lamp and transo preamp and two bass and treble contour (yes I know it's not an Ampeg or a trace but it is not a TOKAI either! lol): no result really appealing. I stay on my hunger. The same with a bass amp HARTKE YAMAHA BB 414 gives a much more interesting.

I'm not too severe at the note because it is not catastrophic amp related, and at the same price level, there are much worse and much better.

OVERALL OPINION

Despite the minor defects mentioned above, there is a low with a value for money very interesting and gives a real pleasure.

But it must still be aware that it is primarily a bass to study or start a group. And like any instrument, accompanying the amp must be related to its characteristics, ie small, the risk of being disappointed by the result (using amp or high end with this bass will never give sound expected). I possess 5 years and this is my first bass so I want! But my amp and the group evolves, I plan to change it.

For those who do not have large financial means, should not be complex to change the pickups even if it is a "small" bass. It has recently been reviewed by a luthier (something I recommend to everyone even for a low entry level: it transforms the instrument and play!) Who told me that the violin was very solid (as always at Yamaha) and could support a better quality microphones without problem.

Anyway, first bass, I do it again without hesitation that the selection of this instrument is an excellent first accomplice to start low.
