I recently bought a scarlett 6i6 and i want to route output 3/4 to a compressor, then sending it back via input 3/4, but it appears that scarlett mixcontrol doesnt even let you send audio to output 3/4 without also sending it to 1/2. The only outputs i can choose between are monitor outputs one and two, and headphones left and right. Is it designed this way? Or is there something wrong with the software/hardware?

Yes you can do it.....but are we talking combined with a daw or stand a lone.
I ment like input compressor and then record?

That is the basic question here...

Can you tell us...?

It's not about what you got to use ....    but how you use what you got...

It just seems weird that they would make it so that the outputs cannot be used completely independently.

But they can
If you are using a daw you can assign all parts to 1/2 for monitoring a complete mix and parts of a mix to 3/4 or 5/6.
However if listening with headphones you only hear outputs 3/4 or 5/6

But it all depends on how you route the interface with mix control.
Search this forum there are more people who wanted to route their signals to external devices.

So the question is what do you like to do and with what software.
If you do that we all can help you further.
