Simple Installation, fast and clean Windows XP Pro SP2 automatically updated.
Note: PT7 LE positions itself on your hard drive system and invades the other for safety. So if your drive will store the audio is full in the middle of a recording, it will automatically continue on a different disk or other storage media. That's useful when big session.
No conflict, I consulted the list of hardware compatible Certied ProTools Digidesign's website.
The PC is also used for applications CAO/3D without any problems.
The configuration software is simple but is not in 30 seconds. It is necessary to think its use and maximize their choices depending on the type of project that we will most often to treat. In my case, I use almost exclusively the software and features acoustic instruments (bass, guitars, microphones ...).
Digidesign hardware I have is pretty basic:
- Digi 002 Rack
- Command8
The manual and software supplied with the hardware they are well made and fast training DVD is very useful.
Given the power system, the note is maximum.
SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE
FYI, here's the hardware configuration I use:
Intel Pentium D960 / 4GB DDR2 Corsair TwinX Platinum / CM Asus P5WD2-E Premium / disk system WD 250 GB Barracuda SATA and SATA 2 WD Raptors 36GB 10K RPM. The Raptors are exclusively dedicated to the Protools audio in the sessions and WAV + MIDI libraries.
Absolutely no configuration problem, the balance is perfect and stability rarely seen. For those who have a PC meeting the requirements of Digidesign, the switch to Mac is absolutely not justified: soft and hard are perfectly stable.
Regarding performance, I am far from having knelt or to approach the limits of CPU and RAM. It is quite normal tapper in a large computer system if you want to use the power up Protools LE.
I usually have for each track:
- A treatment of dynamic (or Digidesign Bomb Factory)
- 1 EQ 3 or 4 band graphic or parametric
- An effect (chorus ...)
- An effect send
For a couple of audio tracks and instruments together, not a problem.
Note: I usually run with a resolution of 16 or 24 bits at a frequency of 44.1 kHz. It is unnecessary for me to go beyond.
OVERALL OPINION
I spend four hours a day and as much per night for a week.
I am fortunate to be backed up nicely by a sound engineer friend who bump on PT every day.
This is a quick way to learn and grow (by the way I thank him).
The power of the audio editing is legendary and well-deserved, MIDI is as good as Sonar (I used a very long time) without the tortuosity of Cubase or Logic. In this regard, I do not like these programs to a purely logical reason, they do not fit me and I do not doubt that these are excellent apps.
Pros:
- Absolutely fantastic audio processing
- MIDI accessible and simple
- Perfect routing
- Plugins available (and Ignition Pack Nomad Factory)
- The warping of using VST FXPansion Adapter (super efficient and bug-free)
- Plugins VST / AU / RTAS / AS
- The hardware monitor with Rack and Digi002 Command8
- The quality of audio jacks really very pro
Cons:
- The need to carefully consider the use of non real-time AudioSuite
- Colonization by ProTools hard drives (not serious, but in principle)
- The very logic pro, needs to be well studied
For a high-powered software and really pro, you swim in happiness. However we will have to take a little head on the use and not be reluctant to refer to manuals and training videos. This is a production of the most serious that requires real learning. Once considered the logic, you have the total freedom.
Price / quality ratio + Software Digidesign hardware: excellent.
Switch to ProTools is not at all an innocent approach and may lead to some addiction. The great happiness come to the studio with just a DVD backup sessions and an iLok!
