Sequencer comprehensive multi-function:
- Section "SONG": 32 MIDI tracks + 1 + 1 Pattern track Track 1 Track Chord + TEMPO
Pattern and the Chord track can store styles, and agreement section (arranger). Tempo track to record changes in tempo
- Section "PATTERN": creation of short motifs (8 jsqu'à measures) + using a library of patterns to create styles, each style little as 8 sections. Memory of 64 styles
- Section "VOICE" setting sounds. 32 votes. 1 to 16 voices used on the sequencer. Voice from 17 to 32 used for the pattern thus styles. Mixer with each voice type (instrument, perceived or sound effects) bank program, reverb, chorus, effect, pan, volume, expression (velocity), detune, transposer. Each editable voices (filter, envelope, LFO, bend, velocity, portamento).
- Section "EFFECT": 3 simultaneous effects: a reverb (editable), a chorus / flanger (editable), a variation (rev, chorus, wah, flange, delay, tremolo, rotary speaker, EQ, distortion ... editable). Two different cabling are available for multi purpose "variation": either insertion or in a loop on the console (with reference to dosage of reverb and chorus)
The QY 700 is equipped with MIDI IN and 2 x 2 x OUT. Each track sequencer can be assigned to the internal generator or each of the two MIDI outputs (or three). The two MIDI can be recorded simultaneously (depending MERGE). The sync can be done by MTC or MIDI
Recording tracks: live or step
Editing tracks: piano roll or list events
The QY700 has a super-powerful tool: PlayFX function, accessible in SONG or PATTERN:
Via this page, you can improve each track by adding an effect of "GROOVE". It's actually a smart quantification, which plays on the timing + Velocity + length of the notes, according to a style (selected from 100!). For example, I record a black successively in STEP mode, then right on time. Then I add an effect groove "swing" that puts the notes for ... "Swing"!
Obviously, this effect is dosed (on the timing, velocity and length), and does not alter the original track
Play through the FX, it is also possible to determine the velocity (rate + offset), and move the placement of notes (front or back) and length (more or less), and always without affecting the original track. These settings are added (or not) to the effect of groove.
UTILIZATION
This device is also very comprehensive complex. Programmers have envisioned a number of features and capabilities crossover between the different modules. The power of the device makes it difficult to assimilate: it takes time to explore the different features and capabilities, as well as to swallow the record, very well done, but also very plentiful (a book of 300 pages! )
Fortunately, the user interface offers many keys, large screens with buttons to access functions on the edge of the screen (6 down, 5 on the side). Mini keyboard (useful for entering into agreements or step recording). A numeric keypad, a scroll wheel "DIAL", a pitch bend, an assignable dial, pressing the "tape". Key locators, mute, solo, etc ...
To facilitate editing, it is possible to set the same way by many. Example, to select a sound, I can: use the wheel "DIAL", or the numeric keypad or the keys +/-.. or the master keyboard.
Note, a key JOB, allowing us to be or to have access to a super tool box (25 functions) to act on the slopes a few examples: quantification, transpose, cut / copy MIDI events, cut / copy actions, time stretch, crescendo automatic separation of events to MIDI SYSEX, etc. ..
These tools let you fiddle with any Midifile
SOUNDS
The sound is not the strong point of the device. These are the same as the expanders Series MU. This is obviously reading multi-samples with a filter, an envelope, an LFO to work the stamp.
It is not possible to create "performance" multi layers like a synth.
Banks vary in quality.
I like the drums, bass, guitars (acoustic and electric), brass, some synth (leads)
I do not like pianos (even electric), organs (must say, I have a Hammond home!), Strings (solo or groundwater, natural or synthetic), the synth "pads"
A detail ... Yamaha had the good idea to include electric pianos called "DX". Unfortunately, he did the "DX" as the name! (A full, anyway!)
The effects are good, and significantly improve the sound (three simultaneous effects, it enhances any pan)
OVERALL OPINION
I bought this unit there are about ten years.
I use it occasionally, and that's the problem: the lack of practice that I forget the possibilities!
It allows me to quickly prepare sequences to accompany me when I play the organ.
Considering the use I make of this module is far too powerful! However, I am always satisfied with the result and that is why I continue to use
I always do what I want, a machine is better than too little too powerful!
I tried arrangers / sequencer software, the QY700 is in my opinion higher (to render and function of both musical and technical)
If this unit had a sampler, it would be the musical toolbox "perfect" in my opinion
The low sound is not a problem, MIDI is for that.
