2i4 "goes to sleep"

In the morning, and several times during the day, my 2i4 will suddenly stop outputting sound and I have to turn the output knob back and forth until it "wakes up". Also the MIDI light stopped working, though the MIDI works fine. Anybody else seen this symptom?

I bought this used and it is LONG out of warranty. If it needs repair, I would imagine it will cost less to buy a new one.
