Thread M-Audio interface creates laggy playback

Hello,

Firstly, sorry if I'm on the wrong forum, I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to audio.

I recently purchased an M-Audio Air 192 6 audio interface which I connected to my 2017 iMac (macOS Sierra 10.12.6, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 memory, enough space left on my hard drive). The connection is USB-C. When I try using the interface to play back or record on any platform, be it pro tools first, ableton live, youtube, etc., my computer lags and playback freezes. pro tools has crashed almost every time I tried playing back a track. youtube will play for a few seconds before playback freezes and I have to close the window. I've tried changing buffer size on the softwares, doesn't change anything. Any idea on how to fix this?
