Topic Home studio, Materials for Vocals recording
Hello
iam a beginner in home studio and recording, I would like to get a small equipment for the vocals recordings (singing and Gender voice over for commercials)

I have this software: Pro Tools 8, Ableton Live 8, Fruity Loops 8 and Adobe Audition
For mixing, masterise and the equalisation i use just the softs , then i have with my computer.
The place where i record voices is not soundproof, but calm and quiet

This is my setup:

- Toshiba Notebook Intel Core Duo P8700 CPU at 2.53 GHz and memory of 04 GB (Windows Vista)
- A simple headset for my pc
- A headphones from my  Ipod

As a beginner I can't buy a completely  home studio, I would have just made a general withering icon_mdr.gif (equalization issue) my budget is between 250 and 300 Euros no more!

This is what I refer as the material I find two Optiones:

The first option

- Sound card PRESONUS AUDIO BOX USB -----> 139 EUROS
- M-Audio Nova Microphone + Filter Anti pops -----> 120 EUROS
and for mastering and just treatment I will use my Ipod headphones icon_crying1.gif

The second option

- Sound card PRESONUS AUDIO BOX USB -----> 139 EUROS
- Microphone Eagltone CM 40 + Filter Anti pops ----> 59 EUROS
- Speaker Fostex PM 0.5 MKII monitoring ----> 144 EUROS

So that now I need your help to know your opinions, comments, suggestions, if you have other options and solutions to offer me, the compatibility of the selected material with my computer and operating system, the rendering quality and any other remarks that could possibly help me.

Note: I can get the first option and one or two months after i can buy the Fostex speakers

Thank you.

I think that equipment should do ok. I dont have exact specs in front of me but things to look for is does the interface have

a.phantom power

b.zero latency monitoring

c.24 bit a/d convertor

*optional* ability to record up to 96k sample rates

IF what your buying cant do all the above you might wanna keep shopping.

Vocal Booth - This will make a big deal to your sound.  I have seen all fashions of this man.  When I first come up I would just clean out a closet,remove the rack/bar and use a staplegun to adhere blankets to the wall and run headphone wires in there........to now I have made several professional looking booths complete with a flat screen monitor and key board and mouse and headphones to control yourself in the booth.

The difference in sounds?   While a professional booth and egg crate sound foam certainly looks better from an aesthetic point of view I cannot sit and here and say it sounds night an day better.  To me it sounds a hair more refined but the ole closet with blankets sounded about as good.   For what your doing voiceovers and a little singing I would prolly do the closet but the monitor and keyboard/mouse access is mandatory now IMO.  There is nothing quite like pressing "R" on the keyboard and sprinting in the closet and putting your headphones on and then hope you get a good take!
