I had been playing for about six months and had been looking for a new gituar for two (my first guitar was a big hard-to-play classical acoustic). I bought it of of E-bay for $393 +S&H. ive been to many guitar stores and have talked to many players about my purchase and they all tell me that this was an awesome deal even for a used one. look for a new one at around $600 minimum without the case. This model has 3 pickups.

It playes and feels almost exactly like a "real" Gibson Les Paul and it costs 1/6 of the Gibson price or less.
The heavy weight of the guitar translates into excellent sustain and the pickups are wonderfully rich and full sounding. this gives "that Gibson sound" that has made the Les Paul line so famous. I love the way the guitar can give deep full clean tones and smooth growling distortion. The neck is well designed and makes for fast, easy play and the bridge makes for some easy palm muteing. and last but not least I'd like to point out that this os one of the worlds most beautifull guitars, black finish with gold hardware and cream trim. need I say more?

There is not much to dislike about this unit. However, I am puzzled by the fact that a three pickup guitar would have only a three way pickup selector switch. Most three pickup guitars that I've seen or played have 5 or 7 way switches allowing the player to use most or all possable combinations. apparently the setup is this: UP-Neck only, MIDDLE-Middle and Bridge, DOWN-Bridge only.
Also the weight of the guitar becomes an issue after playing for an hour or two. If you play standing up your shoulder will get tired for the first few weeks.

This gituar is constructed very well. Usually the body is 1-3 peices of wood
(yea but just try to find the seams, they are nearly invisable even in Epi Pauls with clear finishes)
The neck is another obviously. The fretboard is maple, and fretwork is very nice.
That said, most pards on the guitar are mearly adequit the list includes: tuners(low ratio), the nut(light plastic), and the output jack(gets loose sometimes).
the biggest problem is the pickup selector switch which is obviously cheap and becomes loose easily as well as being loose internally. Expect to replace this eventually.

On March 17th 1999, I had asked my dad if we could go into a local music shop so I could get some strings for my electric guitar, and also check out some new stuff that they had. I have always mentioned to my dad that I would loved to get my hands on the Epiphone Les Paul Custom. Upon entering the shop, I seen it! There it was, the Epiphone Les Paul Custom (Black with Gold Hardware). The only guitar that proudly stood out from all other cheap strat look alikes. I then asked the guy if I could try it out. I plugged it into a Marshall Valvestate 100 watt 2x12 combo (ah, sweet Marshall power!). It sounded amazing! Everything sounded excellent, from Mello stuff to the down right dirty full gain. It had all the lows-mids-and highs that I've been hearing everyone talk about. My dad told me to ask my mom if I could get it, but with all the excitement, I didn't really understand him quite well. I put the "Les Paul" back up on the rack thinking that I could never get it. I told my dad that I really wanted it, but at around $500 bucks(US). I needed some financial support. My parents agreed to let me borrow the amount since I could pay them back with my summer job. With my luck we went back the next week to pick it up.



When I started to play it, I felt like the spot light was on me. This guitar is just perfect! The string action is great, not to low and not to high but just right. The first few songs I played were from Metallica. This guitar sounded just like their ESP customs worth over 2 grand. But everyone can sound good with the Marshall's full gain right? Well I then played some Mello tunes, and I was surprise at just how good this guitar sounded. I prefer to use neck/bridge pick up selection for playing without distortion. For even more lows, just switch to the neck pick up. For what ever pick up selection you chose, you'll find the right tone. This guitar also stays in tune perfectly, I've played in many different tunings with no problems. Not only does the Epiphone Les Paul Custom play great, but it looks like it's worth thousands! The Gold Hardware also helps to add that expensive look. I showed the guitar to my guitar teacher one day and he loved it, in fact it sounded a lot better then his $1,500 strat! I had to actually tell him to stop playing so I could play on it. Everyone that has encountered me and my new Epiphone Les Paul Custom has been shocked with it's brilliant one of a kind sound. And it's funny to see that everyone thinks I payed a lot more for it than what I really did cause of it's "Les Paul" history of being very expensive. The guitar has also helped me to actually play better, and I often try to imitate the great rock and roll legends!



I noticed a big difference in the weight of the "Paul" compared to my Slammer guitar. At first after a usual playing session of about 3 hours, my shoulder would start to get sore. I got use to the felling though, and what a feel that is!(No pain, No Gain!) Another very small thing is that since it's black, every thing shows (ie. finger prints). But just take a cloth and wipe it off and it will be fine (No harm done there!).



My Epiphone Les Paul Custom was made extremely well. It's weight ensures me that it's going to take a lot more then the casual nick to hurt this sucker. I've heard many stories that people have actually dropped their Les Paul's (God Forbid's if this happens to me!), to just pick it back up and retune. The lacquer finish is great! It help's to prevent those nasty belt scratches. The paint job is excellent with no faults what so ever. Gibson/Epiphone also dips the gold pick-ups into wax to prevent feedback when playing, and the guitar also comes with a life time warranty! (Ask your dealer for more information about the warranty.)



The Epiphone Les Paul Custom is in my upon one of the best guitars that any one can get for as little as $500 bucks (US). It's low in price (compared to the Gibson version), plays and sounds so good that I even have a hard time to describe it. It is far more Superior than anything I've ever played on! And I've never doubted this purchase, cause I know it's worth every penny and then some. If circumstances agreed, I would've not hesitated to buy the Epiphone Les Paul Custom even it were twice the price! So if you're thinking about getting another guitar or just feel like browsing around, I seriously urge you to try it your self, and only then will you hear and understand what I'm talking about. Oh and it's also a Gibson product, just without the 3-4 grand price tag that is!

The Epiphone Les Paul Custom is a reissue of the classic "black beauty" guitar that was made in the late fifties, and then from the late sixties onward. The Gibson version sells new for almost $4,000, so this guitar is hoping to give players the option of having that general look and tone for less cash. It features a mahogany and alder body, set in mahogany neck, Grover tuners, tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece and a pair of Epiphone medium output humbuckers wired to a typical Les Paul configuration of dual volumes, dual tones and a pickup selector switch. The current models are made in China.

UTILIZATION

The design of this guitar isn't the most ergonomic in the world to me. I find a lot of the Epiphone Les Paul copies to be heavier than I'd like unfortunately. That being said for some players the weight is not a problem. The other big issue for me is the bulky neck joint, but that's the case with the LP design in general, not just this model. The upper fret access is affected by the neck joint, but if you've got big hands and/or long fingers you might be able to get around it a bit easier. Getting a good tone out of this guitar is pretty easy. The stock pickups aren't the best, but the tones when you plug it in have a nice thick vibe that is a bit less bright than a Les Paul Standard with its maple cap.

SOUNDS

This guitar is meant to ape the tones of a classic Les Paul Custom which was always a darker and thicker sounding instrument than a Les Paul Standard. Granted, the woods in this guitar are not the same entirely as a real Gibson LP Custom, but it still seems to have that darker sound in its DNA somewhere. It works quite well for jazzier clean tones or more fluid/thick drive tones I find. It's also great for riff rock too because of the nice low end. The stock pickups are okay, but I've had better luck hearing this guitar with some better quality pickups like DiMarzio Super Distortions or Duncan Customs. Swapping out the pickups bring out more harmonics and really liven things up for my ears. Given how much cheaper the guitar is, you could upgrade the electronics and still save thousands...

OVERALL OPINION

All in all I think the Epiphone Les Paul Custom is a decent way to get into a Les Paul Custom type guitar for not a lot of cash. They are about $500 new which is a fair price given the features and tones you can get. Compared to the $4,000 for a Gibson Les Paul Custom you are really saving some coin to get this one, but they are much less consistent than the Gibson models, so you may have to play a few before you find one that speaks to you.

Handle more than pleasant, access to acute easy as badly as any gibson ... this family

I had to buy OCCAZ 2500FF the era in a music magazine for its looks "Black and Gold" (despite the low maintenance accused) and anxious to have a "big sound ". I used a Marshall 8040 and a Boss ME10 the era.
For the "big sound" ... was a little! Dj acoustic c'tait not great, and once industry ... "blah" ... I have changed my Strato but no more.
The pickups lacked agressivit and suggested a "plop" of the attack mdiator solo. They were replaced quickly by Seymour Duncan (a "59" and "PG-1") and aa lot help matters: C'tait much more convincing! In saturated and especially in his clear, especially intermdiaire position. With a little compressor and chorus c'tait divine! (I can still see the singer group exclaiming "Damn that sound!"). In the "serious" silent sound enough "Jazz" and set to "treble" dfoulait me of AC / DC.
Until the day I bought it from a lamp 60W amp, which made it clear the default apparatre of violin making. I put the microphones origins and sold it (at the end of two years) with nanmoins heart sank.

OVERALL OPINION

If this guitar is not above reproach (Previous DSOL for notices), it remains a good guitar for beginners. But I find it a bit expensive for the "Made in Cora": 700 € all of the same! Ephiphone advantage too of the reputable of its big sister GIBSON while for a similar price was a PRS-SE of the same type but much better bill in violin and microphone. Good handle (Coll of course). The differences between the micro is quite noticeable! You really see the value of a selector, you can really play it.

OVERALL OPINION

UTILIZATION

Trs comfortable playing a little heavy. It is heavier than other Les Pauls by what it is that Paisse Studio for example. It's a bit hard to the back but the sound is not the same!
CHAC is less easy to acute as a guitar donated the two sides will blow but it's still very playable trs.

The sound is good trs, it's still worse than a Gibson ...
For my rhythm I use two microphones. on the other hand for solos I prfre n'tre on a micro: bridge or neck dpend ca.
I do not touch the knob, everything is back. Prfre I adjust the volume with my amp because the volume knob changes the input of the amp and it plays the sound of distos!

For a more bluesy I play with the board knob stamp, it allows her to have the "Santana".

For those who can not afford to buy a Gibson but want a meileur her you can change the pickups by Seymour Duncan ramplacant by example. Luter because the guitar is well made trs.

OVERALL OPINION

I have 6 years. This is my guitar Premire lctrique and better too!

As is the Epiphone branded Gibson, The models are not given, it plays the image (it can for that matter!). It is a stable price level, by the way if I claim I will not lose too much agrent (the era it valai 3700fr).

Of course I'd like to have a Gibson but it's expensive! I agree this guitar perfect for the use I have is saying to me, in BPS or with my group of pop / rock (Eclipz). I also recorded a CD.

UTILIZATION

The neck is super-nice! This is what I prefer, no need to go too far if you want to handle better, certainly there, but this one is really nice and playable!
-Access to treble is good, it is a les paul is not super easy but you get used to very quickly
-The weight is still a result, it is a full guitar, it, it is not stolen, it's like a gibson.
-The sound is average, replacing the pickups would result in something good but not worth a real ca ca gibson for sure!

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for a few months, I just sell it to buy a PRS SE Singlecut, I tried it and it's something else + for not much money!

Before I had a fender-Showmaster, I prefer epiphone

With experience, I will buy a real les paul lol!
Basically this guitar has good sustain, a handle super nice, good use like a les paul) but the point is black and the sound is still quite important on a guitar lol
