Always the same characteristics as before ...

    UTILIZATION

This is a guitar more or less boilerplate in terms of sound, but side look a little less. I use it since 1993 and I did not want to move on. I use it to play the old school hxc and it goes pretty well. Ditto for the blues from time to time. The only problem with Les Paul, is the weight, which is pretty heavy after a while. That is why I opted for a SG as an alternative. The handle is great gameplay, after a small adjustment of the bridge you come to a game very fluid. It's not quite the Gibson but it has the taste and color.

    SOUNDS

The original sound is not bad but not amazing either. I changed the original pickups for EMG HZ H4, and here we arrive at something interesting! The resonance of the guitar's help, we arrive at the warm wishes, clean and flawless for perfectionists. But we can also do a very very fat and heavy without any worries. I use it on Marshall and it's all good.

    OVERALL OPINION

After 14 years of use, I can not get enough. So if I had to do this choice, it would be no problem. It's a guitar aillant advisor to some changes in the long run (microphones, mechanical knobs for ex.).

It is clear that the new price of about 600 650 the silent era openly usurped.
Gilding exposes Lumire disappears after 4 5 years maximum, the oil bath mcaniques do not the pond and we spend our time connect the bridge pickup is Screaming and does not distortion, it is a horror, the neck pickup is warm but poorly Dfine, the binding is white color Submitted beech, the handle inlays are a kind of dull plastic villain locks the straps are too small, the guitar is not just a great band, the body is made of three stacked boards and the ill-fitting indoor, cavities give the guitar a so print half cash, an electronic cheap cheap but good, but this guitar was out of the mouth, and good sound with modifications necessary.
Ah ... the Core by Cort, it's not terrible, and it is China which takes over Submitted, not better but much cheaper!

    UTILIZATION

The pickups are too low quality to think about the big sound in blues is playable but do not push them too. Means. Ds you do a bend, it must be connected. trs means.

    SOUNDS

So from a great ease on the handle fast enough, a reasonable weight and a pretty face, change the pickups and mcaniques. There that see dfile microphones piphones found cheap on ebay for 2 or 3 years ... sound in the neck position is correct in lead, but a draft, just Dfine, on his easel, it is clear rather play it loud because it takes but you put a distortion ds, it's atrocious, a spin eardrums, unworthy this price.
I tried the gibson pickups, classic 57, 490, 498, seymour 59, sh4 jeff beck, old Japanese vintage microphones, microphones and custom of the PRS is a combination SH2jazz in neck and in old Japanese Gotoh bridge that is needed (the PRS have put on another t scratch but taient trs good for jazz and fusion!). I use this guitar in jazz, and thanks a split home via push-pull, I single-coil sounds funky and cool wish, a varied pleasures and sounds great. This guitar is trs adapts to jazz, with a sound a little hollow ... type 1 / 2 box. Amazing.
I put mcaniques worthy of the name (old Gotoh rcupres splendid tulip shape), and I put enough not to lose the AIGS with the volume and that n ' is nothing to see.
The sound becomes prcis pretty fluid but still lacks sustain. Well, it's not an LP or a good Japanese copy, but I'm REALLY fun to play the guitar, although RULES, not too lightweight feel its default narrowly in the middle of the handle. Trs comfortable, cool.

    Added 2010:
DEFINITIONS I changed the pickups for classic losound Buckers (spirit alnico2 seth lover) made by hand, nets and ropes course Mt ... Jazz do you want to sail and blues die for. like what the woods are not so bad!

    OVERALL OPINION

Without the changes, it's not terrible, with, one can play guitar! I do not know how these MODELS made between 94 and 2007 but if it sounded like before, plutt buy another brand or buy the secondhand like me a reasonable price with a little budget for microphones and mcaniques because it is very nice in the end and is one of my best bbsdsormais. Be Reviews piphones LP gibson LP and certain of millsimes means. There are often better or as well for much less.

For the plain kills ca in ca disto spits a little when you push the guitar and the amp, so everything works out for us to change the pickups!

So that is just after a year with the scratching I decided to mount the kit Zakk Wylde (emg 81/85) on my guitar!
So first of all this kit has jai mounted upside down, understand the 85 to 81 in bridge and neck position.
And it sounds Venere! barefoot style has the teeth of the opposite granny ^ ^!
Finally more seriously this arrangement allows a sacred sound palette and coupled with the quality of ca epiphone sounds mega good!
Compared to some metal machines, ltd type, the epiphone has nothing to envy them if this may be the handle 24 cases.
In short changed the pickups is a real good investment to significantly improve your scratch!

    SOUNDS

It's perfect for what I play is so I'm pretty ecletique c really nice, plugged into a marshall's How We Roll, sounds are very warm and round then nickel, that is not super well-defined when you push it all but otherwise stylish c

So with the kit we play everything, and it sounds great, the 85 brings the sounds very bluesy and sounds very clear round that flatters the ear. The 81 allows it to have fun in the metal category, though in my opinio the best position is the split in the middle giving you a huge rock, rock and especially Metal HAD!

    OVERALL OPINION

I've had a year and I so often the User I think my opinion is too subjective even though I love this pre-scratched, I love the shape, sound (especially with the kit ZW), color ( ebony ouuuuu) Finally I hate not much except that the microphones will have to think a change even if it is not the DAUBE (Zw is the kit I repeated a beast investment), and o feedback sometimes certainly mavais coil (which disappears with emg)
I got it for 400 euros so really nickel (after 150 more for emg)
Over time I remake this choice without problem!
So I put in 9 to 10 and not like this account of the price at which I had and EMG lai!!

Better defined, more fishing and precision, although crunch best on the neck pickup, I must say that I do not understand ... So I'll take my gibson review because I have doubts: less sustain (and yet the ear is 9-42, the Gibson 10-46), the more dirty (especially distortion!), a less harmonic.

    SOUNDS

Everything is here: clear sound very nice, versatile mics (the knobs are really something) and disto wonderful: its the "annihilator" in acute, more "RATM" in grave: What happiness!
Well, I bought this kit because I have a scratch EMG ZW lying around for a while, but personal I will have no I would not have changed! Given all the reviews I read about these mics called rotten, stay on your ass!

    OVERALL OPINION

I received it yesterday and I do not play on this one! Frankly surprised by the sound and finish, I will soon take my gibson studio lite settings because I can not believe this: a scratch 3 times the price which appears worse, I do not get it!
For me this Epiphone is a gift from the gods: excellent quality / price (I got it new for 270 euros), a frankly excellent scratch!
If I have to make another choice, I ordered two of these grattounes left gibson and that made me dream so much! Bouh Desilu that is hard!

EDIT 20/01: I finally tried it yesterday my gibson, and finally the sound is much better! More fishing life (especially in light), versatility, sustain .... I think I ' had not properly drive my jack when I make my comparison! mea culpa!

1st First, it is thought to have a handle lumberjack, but no, it's pretty comfortable, Access in acute, is not really complicated even though I have long fingers.
This is my first Les Paul that I wear concert t's not my weight, we feel APRS 1:30 concert was jumping around ^ ^
The sound, the big question, I use an old Samick 80watts of pedals and a Boss ME 50, lack of power microphones, also drool too
The clean, it plays well on the trs two microphones, one will tend tjs the agreement has played bridge for distortion and a beautiful solo run!

PS: I changed from a micro SD 59 'in the neck and a SD SH4 JB in bridge, it's amazing guitar sound here must relive his amiodarone is something crazy, I test on a marshall DFX and Frenchie is a good good not Khan's worth I test the JCM 800's of cum exploded at me ^ ^ WAS overkill, so I suggest that you change the pickups !

    SOUNDS

The style of music, you can not complain about it, it's rock!! it's the blues!
you can have almost the sounds you want but it's not really good for mtal! it Exelle especially in the HARD ROCK / HEAVY, o its u!! the maiden fan will be delighted not to mention gunz!

the fan does not shred your way right now, there really means jou on this guitar or you change the pickups by DiMarzio Evolution or you change the guitar xD

    OVERALL OPINION

I use it for about 1 month
OCCAZ buy a 300 it dat in 2003, it had no scratches or pet or anything!
Even the original string t oO!

The new price is a bit EXAGRES, because OCCAZ, its worth the cost!

Advice, the couple has a marshall piphone same transistor ounces and is soon to our little slash!

150 micro at all, I can tell you its dpotte!

Great. The difference between me and my Epi Barracuda is enormous, even if the guitars are not connected. But then, once connected to my tube amplifier Kustom The Defender 50W is two completely different worlds. I'll change the pickups for (probably) of Gibson, if not I'll see but so far I have not been disappointed with the sound.

    OVERALL OPINION

I got it Oct. 11, 08, I used it in the studio, in the repeat, and I love it. Only the jack is misplaced when it stops playing, you can not put it on a chair.

I got it used for $ 415, if not new it costs $ 650, very good price, good choice of guitar for all

Selector microphones "crackles" a bit and tends to oxidize (as on many Les Paul that I could see): it is sometimes necessary to activate multiple times in a row for the "polish up" .
    Holding agreement is very good.
Note: the twelfth fret is beginning to mark the traces of wear (after 8 years) and acastillage golden microphones, mechanical and bridge disappears under the effect of time (and sweat).

    SOUNDS

The sounds of the two original humbuckers are very satisfactory and give a good range of sounds despite only three mic positions.
This guitar is rock-oriented course, but for me it must not be confined to this ...
The sustain is also very good.

    OVERALL OPINION

This guitar has a great look (if you like black and gold ...) associated with a legendary form.
It m'acompagne for 8 years and is comfortable in all situations.
The finish is particularly good for a guitar of this price range (I played on US Gibson without finding that such a price difference is justified) and I find it rather old though.
Be careful, this is a model made in Korea (whose finish is particularly well compared to those from other Asian countries from what I later learned), which is not the case with all Epiphone Les Paul Custom that you can find on the market ... Before making this choice, I would hold, therefore, first to try the guitar.

The handle is a pure joy slip his alone, access to acute is like all the Les Paul dificil a little early, but the creature is easily tamed, weight is important but we are not wimps, some muscle and go. To the sounds of happiness also, finally, for those who like gibson or epiphone.

I use it for 2 years, I can not get enough, more like the shape of the Les Paul.
The only negative is its weight but hey I played 5 hours without back pain.
Very good quality / price ratio the materials used are of good quality and finishing more than correct for a Korean.

Close but still not a true Custom

Epiphone Les Paul Custom [1989-2012]Published on 07/01/11 at 20:08
The Epiphone Les Paul Custom is, without a doubt, the most popular guitars that Epiphone has in their lineup. The guitar features a mahogany body with a mahogany neck, gold hardware, 24.75'' scale length, carved maple top, optional pickguard, rosewood fretboard, 22 frets, trapezoid inlays, tune-o-matic bridge, binding, two humbuckers, two volumes, two tones and a three way switch.

    UTILIZATION

I might as well start complaining now. The biggest thing I hate about this guitar is the fact that it has no ebony. The Les Paul Custom should come with ebony, yet this one comes with rosewood. It's really no different from any other Les Paul if it has a rosewood board. The nut wasn't too…

    UTILIZATION

I might as well start complaining now. The biggest thing I hate about this guitar is the fact that it has no ebony. The Les Paul Custom should come with ebony, yet this one comes with rosewood. It's really no different from any other Les Paul if it has a rosewood board. The nut wasn't too bad on this, thankfully. However, the frets were a bit iffy. They weren't perfectly level, and you could tell that once you start lowering the action. They could have been crowned a bit better. Upper fret access sucks, just like every other Les Paul out there, but you learn to deal with it.

    SOUNDS

This one had some EMGs swapped in it, so I'll be going by those in this review. The guitar had an EMG 81 in the bridge, and it ripped. However, the guitar itself was fairly bright, and I think the 81 wasn't a great match in the bridge. Considering that it's an all mahogany body, that's a bit surprising, but it happens sometimes. There are just certain woods that sound brighter than others, and this was one of them. The EMG 85 in the neck was just about perfect, however. It was warm and fat, but it also had some slight cut going on thanks to the naturally bright sounding mahogany going on.

    OVERALL OPINION

In my opinion, Epiphone kinda dropped the ball with this. While it looks like a Custom, it doesn't have the ebony board. That's a huge minus for me. On top of that, this guitar was a bit bright sounding, so it didn't sound like a normal Custom does. Be sure to test out a few and get one that sounds thick without sounding muddy.

Better than a low end Gibson

Epiphone Les Paul Custom [1989-2012]Published on 06/23/11 at 11:53
The Epiphone Les Paul custom is the budget version of the Gibson Les Paul custom. It pretty much has all the same features as a real Les Paul Custom apart from the ebony fretboard. The Custom is bascially a dressed up Les Paul standard. It has more binding on the body neck and headstock and has larger block inlays. I think the large block inlays give the guitar a classy look. The guitar has s 22 fret rosewood fretboard with the large block inlays. The headstock is fully bound. The body is solid mahogany. Customs do not have the maple top on the body. The color is solid black with gold hardware to give it class. It has dual humbucking Epiphone pickups in the standard Les Paul configuration. …

The color is solid black with gold hardware to give it class. It has dual humbucking Epiphone pickups in the standard Les Paul configuration. There is a volume knob and tone knob for each pickup and a 3 way switch to switch among them. The bridge is your standard tune o matic and stop tail like you would find on most every Les Paul.

    UTILIZATION

This guitar plays like most every other Les Paul. The neck is a bit bigger than on most modern guitars but it is not super big. In the 50s the necks on Gibson guitars were huge. They were commonly referred to as baseball bat necks. In the 60s Gibson switched to a slimmer profile. This slimmer 60s profile is the most popular neck profile on Gibsons and it is found on most Gibsons and Epiphones today. The upper fret access on this guitar is typical for every Les Paul. Since the body joins the neck at the 17th fret you will have to reach around the body of the guitar to get to frets higher than this. This strong joint helps with tone and sustain but limits upper fret playability greatly. The neck binding on this guitar and generally helps to limit the amount of sharp fret ends you feel when playing.

    SOUNDS

This is what a Les Paul should sound like. The base tone of the guitar is great the the pickups let it down. The pickups could be better. They are pretty muddy and dead. You do not get much attack with these pickups. Since these pickups do not have much definition the neck position can get really muddy. With a high gain amp the sound might get muddy due to the lack of definition. With some types of music these pickups are great. If you want a bluesy sound these pickups will do really good and you will be able to get a smooth tone out of them. With a pickup swap this guitar can sound great so I would recommend to anyone who has one of these Epiphones to try it out with some after market pickups. A set of Seymour Duncans would liven this guitar up greatly.

    OVERALL OPINION

The quality on this guitar is pretty good and it is an official copy. I find the quality on high end Epiphones to be better than the quality on some lower end Gibsons. But be aware of the other Les Paul copies out there. There are a few smaller companies making much better quality guitars for the price of these Epiphones. A company like Agile will give you an ebony fretboard and Seymour Duncan pickups for the price of this Epiphone. If you are looking for an official copy that is of decent quality check out Epiphone.

Not only a Gibson is good enough!

Epiphone Les Paul Custom [1989-2012]Published on 03/16/11 at 13:08
The features of this guitar are just like every other LP out there: 22 frets, dual tone and volume controls

Add Grover tuners and matching gold hardware and this is a genuine black beauty. The fit and finish of the guitar is incredible, flawless to say the least. I currently own a Gibson Les Paul Custom. For the price Epiphone cannot be beat. The neck is smooth and easy to play on. The electronics and pickups are of good quality (Although I always replace them with Bare Knuckle pickups)

The only thing different is the weight, it is a little bit lighter than a genuine Gibson, it does not have the Gibson headstock and does not retain its value as much.

    UTILIZATION

Very comfortable and great looking guitar. The neck is thinner than a Gibson Les Paul, the pickups are not as good. The design is just like a regular LP, you either like it or you don't. I love the humbucking tone of a Les Paul, for rock and hard rock music there is nothing out there that rivals it.

The neck is not as fast as a superstrat type guitar, the access to the upper frets is somewhat limited. It is not a shredders guitar. Its a rock machine!

I can't comment on the setup from factory since I took it straight away to a luthier to have the pickups changed

    SOUNDS

I use it with a wide variety of tube amps, the sounds are incredible. If I were to replace the electronics and pickups and blind test it against my Gibson Les Paul Custom I could not tell the difference (In fact this is exactly what I did)

Epiphone pickups are of good quality but they are not high end, neither are Gibson pickups for that matter. I recommend: Suhr, WCR or Bareknuckles as my favorites among the so called boutique replacements

    OVERALL OPINION

Pros: Amazing looks, superb build quality and attention to detail, excellent sounds

Cons: Honestly I haven't found one thing that I dislike with maybe the exception of the pickups, but I am too spoiled in that matter.

Best LP type guitar in the sub 1K price range without a doubt, and easily beats guitars worth twice as much. I Have not tried Edwards or Tokai, as I hear that they make excellent Les Paul copies as well. You can't go wrong with Epiphone. It's not a Gibson, but it sure is good enough!
