Here is the almost indispensable complement to AW2816 and AW4416 stations
The Y56K is an expansion card format mini-YGDAI offering both a system's DSP and two Lightpipe connectors (in and out)
The system has several dsp effects software from Waves:
- L1 Ultramaximizer
- Renaissance Equalizer
- Renaissance Compressor
- Delay SuperTap
- TrueVerb
- DeEsser
Configuration is very simple insofar as the aw44/2816 workstation is equipped with latest firmware, otherwise it should upgrade.
Apart from that, simply plug the card and tighten two screws and it's gone.
The interface card is grafted into the screens of the workstation, the whole is fairly easy to use. To the user can be familiar with various simulated effects, there are no major problems.
The card provides 8 mono channels (up to 4 stereo Gangable) 5 effects, treatment is performed by two Motorola 56300 DSPs 24bit clocked at 120Mhz (one DSP for the first 4 mono channels, one for the last 4). The card, in addition to its 8 in / out adat, also accepts all the routers and consoles AW4416 AW2816, which allows a large number of combinations.
The manual provided the possessor of target AW4416, AW2816 of the possessor must download an update on the web. Apart from that, the manual is sufficient.
The effects are very good (it is better for the price)
All operations are performed in 48bit.
Some effects are downright jaw-dropping, the echo of an echo TrueVerb is the most impressive I have ever heard (nothing to do with the echoes of the AW2816 DSPs).
Apart from that, the ultramaximiser is the ideal tool for mastering stereo track (diethering, quantize, noise-shaping ,...)
The Renaissance Compressor provides cuts and opto electro-mode and can add harmonics.
The de-esser is a very interesting feature since it does not exist in the dynamic controls provided with stations awxx16
The super tap allows the effects of stereo delays, chorus, stereo image rotation of very good quality.
Ah, yes, I forgot ... Renaissance Equalizer is a parametric equalizer to 6 control points working in 48 bits.
I own this card for 4 weeks, it fills many gaps awxx16 stations and offers a truly exceptional result for mastering. A purchase almost mandatory for all owners of these workstations. (Its only flaw is a price too high, but when you love ...)
